Just when I thought Darren couldn't get any more terrifying, he breaks every rib of Lee Miglin! What a tour de force by Darren and the actress that played Mrs. Miglin! I'll be honest, I was pretty bored until Andrew came on the scene, but once he was there, I was in this episode 100%. The second half of this episode, the MVP was definitely Mrs. Miglin's actress! I gotta say, if I ever meet Darren in real life, I might flinch because of his performance in this show!

I find this episode to be the hardest to watch, personally, with the age and fragility of Lee, and just how much he was clearly struggling with himself. I believe Darren also said the scenes with Lee were the most difficult for him. But yes, Judith Light as Marilyn was incredible for sure. On this rewatch I've been noticing how aptly named the episodes are. This one being titled "A Random Killing" referring most obviously to Marilyn who kept calling it that to reassure herself even though the audience knows otherwise, however the second murder when Andrew killed the man just because he needed another vehicle in fact was a random killing. Clever. The last episode was titled "Manhunt" which I always associated with the scenes of the FBI agents trying to track down Cunanan, but this time around I realized it also relates to all the scenes of Andrew hunting for Versace. Maybe these things were super obvious to others but I'm just noticing them now and appreciating it 😆 I also was pretty young when all this happened - around age 10 - so similarly wasn't really aware of it. It wasn't until a few years before this came out that I saw some crime documentary show about it and was fascinated to find out that the guy who killed Versace had killed other people before (they referred to him as a "spree killer" rather than serial killer because all the murders happened over a short period of time). Such an interesting case. I guess Ryan Murphy had been wanting to make a show about it for a long time and when he met Darren Criss and learned he was half Filipino he knew he'd found someone for the role and could make it.

No wonder Darren sings so well ;) Having said that, I don't think I can ever see Blaine in the same way after Darren's portrayal of Andrew in these first few episodes! Talk about chilling and detached!
