So glad you thought this was interesting. Very rarely can a film make you laugh out loud and sob. As a Jewish person, this film really hits home. I still experience rampant anti-semitism to this day, it’s definitely still a scary time to be a Jew. But films like this make the content more digestible in comparison to really sad holocaust films such as Schindler’s List, The Boy in The Stripped Pajamas, etc. Taiki Watiti was the brilliant mind (he played the imaginary hitler) and directed this movie, and is also Jewish. So it was kind of a big ‘fuck you moment’ to have a Jewish person playing this version of Hitler. Overall, I hope people who haven’t seen this film before give it a chance.

I have wanted to see this movie, so it was my first time watching. It wasn't what I expected but it was really good.

I'm very happy you got to see this. It's been high on my list for requests. Thanks, Ally. Now a good follow-up is another Waititi film for our friend Ilsuk.

You summed the intention of the film up perfectly at the end. We haven't escaped the sentiments of that era and it is important to keep history in mind if we're going to avoid repeating it. If you like the overall tone of humor but with a meaningful message and plenty of subtext, you'll probably enjoy Waititi's other independent films.
