I LOVE Nathan and Lucas finally bonding. This just goes to show that they CAN get along. It's Dan's fault that they don't usually. Pitting them against each other. They work really well together, and they actually genuinely seemed to enjoy each other's company this episode. They were joking around and laughing, and also having serious talks that they really needed to have. I love them. And Nathan's story about Dan. Ugh! Dan is just the worst! It's stories like that which make me really annoyed when people claim that Dan's not THAT bad of a father... He is literally abusive. Both emotionally and physically. But I really do love that moment between the brothers, with Nathan telling Lucas that story and telling him that he really wasn't missing out on anything with Dan, only abuse and misery. It's actually a really nice moment between them. Nathan opens up, and Lucas listens and is sympathetic towards him. He truly starts to realise that he actually got the better end of the deal with Dan. Love the girls bonding too! It's great to see Peyton smiling as well! We haven't really gotten to see that yet. And Brooke is adorable this episode. I love them all. :D Dan is just such a piece of shit. He treats everyone terribly. You're gonna need that sign a lot!

I feel like this is the episode that made me fall in love with One Tree Hill when I originally watched it when it was airing. One Tree Hill definitely starts to pick up starting with this episode. While I think the first 5 episodes definitely are good those episodes are more about showing the viewer what is meant to be the existing dynamics of friendships and relationships between the characters. This episode definitely starts to show the dynamics of friendships and relationships changing. With this episode we finally see Nathan and Lucas having conversations that aren't arguments (are they going to be loving brothers overnight obviously not but this is the start of them having civilized conversations rather than constant arguments). And we see a glimpse of the Haley, Peyton, and Brooke dynamic. I feel like this is also the episode where you see the very beginning of character development for Nathan. Nathan is easily 1 of my top 3 characters from the show because his character development and you see that character development slowly starting to happen in this episode. With Nathan talking to Lucas about Dan we finally start to see that Nathan isn't as rude as we were originally meant to perceive him to be but actually see he seems super defensive because he grew up with a parent like Dan who always attacked him over the smallest things in efforts to make Nathan "the best" rather than just being a "normal" parent like Karen and Deb are shown to be (like you can't completely blame Dan for how Nathan acts but also can't deny it had a major role in effecting him).

this episode is the turning point in a lot of ways. the other episodes that came before it are good, sure. but this was the episode that makes you go, "okay. THIS is one tree hill" if that makes sense.

I think this episode was the first that gives you the classic one tree hill vibe. I loved that moment where Nathan explained why he is so afraid of his dad and honestly it explains a lot. Imagine having that asshole drill into you every day of your life that if you’re not the best you’re worthless no matter how “the best” is achieved. With Haley I think Nathan wanted to use her to mess with Lucas but he was surprised by how she treated him and now he actually likes her. Also yeah you need a bigger sign. What Dan is doing right now is childs play compared to what’s coming.

question; have y'all seen the criminal minds episode with dan scott's actor? just wondering. also as much as i hate dan as a character i also love him as a character and his actor. morally bad chracters are so interesting to me and i actually think the chracter of dan scott is brilliant from a narrative perspective.

Love the sign! The bonding of these characters is so nice to see. I love that the opening scene was the three girls in the car. They are such amazing friends off screen and they have even had a reunion of sorts when Bethany Joy Lenz (Haley) and Hilarie Burton (Peyton) guest starred on Sophia Bush's show called Good Sam last year. I love that Lucas and Nathan are starting to see each other's perspective on things and I do see things changing for the better, but it will take time. It takes quite a bit of time to undo bad habits and behavior patterns, but this is a good start. Karen and Keith are just too cute for words...I love how they have supported each other all these years and how afraid they are of their feelings for each other...if they could have just seen how deeply they actually care for each other...Excited to see more of this show with you Travis!

Fun episode! Love the sign lol. And I agree...CMM has such a great voice. I love his voice over quotes at the end of each episode. I could happily listen to him reading the phone book to me lol. I looove Karen and Keith as well. And Brooke? swoon...that girl oozes sex appeal. I would also happily be the third in a Brooke/Lucas sandwich. =)
