Jumped on as soon as I saw this upload! Great way to spend my night!

Nathan is a clear example of what will happen if you let your child get away with everything. He suffers no consequences for his misdeeds and, therefore, thinks he can do whatever he wants. He knows his father will take care of any crimes he commits and his teammates are too afraid to go against him. Deb is cool, but she's not at home enough to really be a good influence for Nathan. Basically, Dan is doing everything a parent should not do when raising a child. With Haley, she's only seeing a particular side of Nathan. He's obviously trying to put his best foot forward with her so she's not seeing what's obvious to us. Plus, all the worst stuff Nathan's done to Lucas, she was 'conveniently' not there to see any of it. But, she should still know that Nathan is a dill hole!

I LOVE how much you're loving this - it makes me so happy!! 😝

I get what Hailey is experiencing... she is close to Lucas and knows deep down its his brother and wants to try and mend some kind of relationship for him. She started this because she saw her bestie (really her own brother) being tortured and knew she had something to help it cool off a bit. BUT she is so ashamed of it she didn't want to tell him. She hasn't seen any of Nathan's assholery and I think if she had witnessed the bs he said or did she would have dropped the whole thing immediately. She is being manipulated by Nathan and I don't even think nathan realizes how much he is even doing it to her also because it's just what he learned from his dad. I think thats why Peyton was sooo freaking pissed about the situation. She saw right through how he is treating Haley because she's been living it as his g.f. for so long.

I think Haley is just always trying to see the best in people and just doesn't wanna believe he is only an asshole. Plus, he is being vulnerable with her in a way he isn't with anybody else so she thinks Nathan being a dick is just a coping mechanism for the tense situation with his dad and Lucas. Still ofc from Lucas perspective she is helping the enemy so to speak and he doesn't know the full story behind it.

2023-04-15 23:54:49 They write and play these teenagers pretty well on this show. I think that's a big part of the appeal and I think they have a good balance of bringing in the adults. I can see why there's such a big divide between Lucas and Nathan. Their parents (or parental figures, since Keith is their uncle, but pretty much was what a father should be to Lucas) and the way they treat their kids is a big part of it. Nathan is an entitled selfish asshole, much like his father. I feel like they're amping it up because they're setting him up for a big fall since this is a TV show. Someone like Lucas can handle big stuff happening to him and we all know that he'll be ok, especially with support like Karen and Keith. Nathan will have to start from basically scratch because Dan has been way too permissive, so he hasn't developed any real coping skills and Deb has been largely absent. I'm glad she's coming back though. I like that Deb isn't reacting to all this like we might have expected. It's nice to see her reaching out to Karen and not trying to pretend that it doesn't exist or that it's some kind of threat to her position in Dan and Nathan's lives. Very refreshing to see that kind of attitude. I feel like Haley seems to see something that we all have yet to see in Nathan. His behavior seems like such an overcorrection or overprotectiveness of what's inside. We haven't seen any redeeming qualities yet because he keeps those on lock. He has no one that he can vulnerable with at all in life and it seems like he lets it out in very small doses only with Haley. With everyone else he puts on his protective armor which is his asshole personality. It definitely keeps people at arms length. Karen (Moira Kelly) is one of my favorite TV moms of all time and she is played so well by a brilliant actress. I first saw Moira in a movie from the early 90s called the Cutting Edge and she was such a bitchy brat in that movie. It's been so nice to see her play a mature and grounded adult mom.
