Sarah Jane Adventures was another spinoff, more for kids but quite enjoyable.

Sarah Jane is the same actress from back in classic who, yes! Sadly, the actress, Elizabeth Sladen passed away in 2011 from cancer. I'm so loving re-watching Doctor Who with you. I've watched it so many times (one of my favourite programs) but it's so nice to watch it alongside somebody who's never seen it before! Can't wait for the next one already!

Yay! You recognized Giles! Quite different from his Buffy counterpart isn't he? Although, you have seen glimpses of his evil side in Buffy, but nothing like this. Yeah, Rose and Sarah Jane competing with each other for the Doctor's affections is good fun, but then they grow to respect each other. Seeing Sarah Jane with the new and improved K9 at the end was very heartwarming, indeed

If they're a British actor, they've probably been in Doctor Who lmao

Such a great episode, love it. Yes the actress for Sarah Jane is the same actress from Classic Who. She was 26 when she started as the companion and in her 50s here I think. And K9 is the original robot they used back in the classics too. Such a great throwback for people like my dad who watched the classics, but it still works for those of us who haven't because they explain it well. Many more classic companions and Doctors show up along the way. Sarah Jane also has a spin off show called The Sarah Jane Adventures, it's brilliant and well worth a watch one day. The Doctor is in it a couple of times. The sonic screwdriver and the TARDIS interior all change every few seasons. Usually after The Doctor regenerates. It didn't happen after Christopher regenerated because he was only there for one season, but they change when David regenerates and when every other Doctor does too. So the sonic and the TARDIS did look very different in Sarah Jane's day. The next episode is in my top 20 of all time, so I'm excited for you to see it. If you don't cry I'll be shocked lol, I do every time. 😂 And I'm glad you're getting more into the show, it's like we all said. It really starts to pick up in season 2. And each season gets better and better from here. 😊

So true lol, I think think of a few actors coming up that he's going to freak out about. 😂

As others have pointed out it's the same actress. Like Billie Piper who plays Rose, Elizabeth Sladen was quite young when she took the role of SJ. Actually I don't think anyone mentioned this previously, but David Tenant is a massive fan of Doctor Who and grew up watching the classic series. His favorite Doctor is the 5th Doctor played by Peter Davison, and his favorite companion was none other than Sarah Jane Smith. Not sure if it's just a fan rumor or true, but apparently at the end when he says "My Sarah Jane" it was Tenant who added that in, because he was talking directly to her as himself. Others mentioned that SJ gets her own spin off. Between the Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, Doctor Who had a "whoniverse" long before the Arrowverse, and MCU came along. Sadly Elizabeth Sladen who plays SJ died a few years after this episode. She had cancer and it was quite the shock to fans and cast of Doctor Who alike.

The next episode is in my top 5! It's one I revisit a lot.

Siobhan Linehan

I don't think I could put it top 5 but it's for sure one of the best and I revisit it a lot too. I've watched it 30+ times I think lol. It's SO beautiful. Hopefully Travis will love it. 🤞

Love seeing the old companions return, and love K9. I grew up watching classic who withthe family. My dad has always been a huge fan. I remember being scared of some of the monsters, I'd put a pillow down on the floor between mum & dads armchairs and watch through the crack between them. I remember at one point there was a big green slimy caterpillar type monster that terrified me so naturally my older sister used to put her green sleeping bag over her head and chase me around the house 😆. Its worth looking up some clips from the old series. K9 was basically made out of grey painted cardboard and pulled along by a string. Hilarious.

David Tennant is an incredible actor. If you ever watch Jessica Jones he plays an absolutely chilling bad guy. I think the reason hes my favourite doctor is the nuance he brings to the role. Hes absolutely mad cap fun and zany, but he has an underlying gravitas, when he warns the bad guys not to piss him off theres a weight to it that i dont think other doctors have quite managed to capture without being sad boy serious or just grumpy.

Jessica Jones was my introduction to him and he blew me away! JJ is a definite candidate for a future request from me ;)

Song for Ten at the end just gets me. And of course now I’m reliving all the feels from all the seasons by listening to the scores. Murray Gold is absolutely incredible. 💙💙

I did not like rose reaction to mickey coming along

I have vague memories of my dad watching Doctor Who episodes (or reruns?) during the 80's on PBS or something on Sunday afternoons, and I always thought it looked so strange and scary. But I remember the K-9 from back then because my little brother and I used to run around the living room, saying, "Affirmative! Affirmative!" in that robotic voice until my dad got (mildly) annoyed and kicked us out of the room so he could watch his show in peace. Lol. I like this episode - I like Rose and Sarah Jane bonding (over the idiosyncrasies of the Doctor, lol), and I liked the conversation Sarah Jane had with him about the loss she had after he was gone. And I really like how David Tennant played his role in this episode, because even though he's never worked with Elisabeth Sladen (that I'm aware of), he acted the hell out of this episode. When he calls her "my Sarah Jane" at the end and picks her up in that adorably huge hug... I believe whole-heartedly that his character knew and cared about her. There's no dividing wall or anything that feels awkward or like they don't have that strong of a connection. I thought both David and Elisabeth played their relationship so beautifully in this episode. It's really sweet. Affirmative! 😆
