Okay this was a lot of funsies. Again. Regular girl + Cyborg. Sailor Mercury is of course, not a cyborg in the show or the comic. Though the creator of Sailor Moon has said she originally planned on making Mercury a cyborg who gets broken a lot. That's not really the inspiration for this piece.

Basically, many many years ago now, a friend asked me to do a series of commissions with the Sailor Scouts as cyborgs. You can find the Mercury piece right here. When they asked me to revisit it, it sounded like a lot of fun. I always liked the idea of connecting Cyber Mercury's parts with a body made of magical water.

You can see how some of my techniques changed over the years. The big one I think is that, now a days I wouldn't make a piece like this so hard to see. I was trying to get across the look of a deep ocean in the original, and I think it worked to an extent. But it just makes Mercury harder to see. Nowadays I would use clearer elements especially in a simple pinup like this.

As for robot stuff. Well, I learned how to make the components make more visual sense as well. I'm not sure how those feet were supposed to work on the original Cyber Mercury design at all...

The colors for the water are gorgeous, both as part of her and what she's summoning around.

Really nice use of color here.
