So as far as the first issue of "Pretty Julie Technomancer" is concerned, the first line in the comic is going to be "I want that F%@#ing phone." The first story, spoiler alert, revolves in part around Julie getting that one perfect awesome phone many people can relate to. How she goes about it though, is uniquely Julie.

But what I haven't really decided yet is how to handle the language in the comic. I thing Julie is a bit of a potty mouth, I think that's understandable given her nature as someone who can be angry and doesn't know HOW to mince words. At the same time, I'd like the story to be read by everyone without really "offending" anyone.

There are lots of varied solutions to this. One, I could use curses but very sparringly. Two, I could remove cursing entirely and get a bit more nuanced and creative. It sounds nice but isn't very realistic for an angry teen. Three, I could bleep it out. I'm not a fan of that though, cause it feels like "we hear the curse word anyway so you might as well say it." Four, I could replace it with different words like effing. We're not gonna use future terms like slag or frak or schway. Five, I could just use curses. I'm leaning towards this but I'll probably need to develop more of the story to see how it goes anyway.

For what it's worth, I'm of the opinion people need to lighten up regarding 'curse words' anyway. They're just words, used for emphasis.

2021-08-05 03:23:38 Fuck yeah! (Well now, that makes it clear where my preference goes. :)) Although creative solutions such as Chinese swearing in Firefly do come to mind. You can also consider it as a filter. Is it meant for people who would be offended by swearing? Or does the 'cool' factor of swearing bring you closer together with your core audience? Also, take my loud thinking as very biased. I grew up in Europe, they have very different ideals considering nudity and swearing over there. Have you watched Skins? (The UK version, not the effing US one.) And it's something a teenager would easily watch (I'd even say it's made with them in mind). And we aired the song Stash Up by OPM uncensored. Not sure how that would sound on US radio. I don't give a fffffff, not a single fffff, not a single solitary fffff, cause I don't give a fffffff, mothffffffffff. :) Oh, and love the updates, as always! <3 Consider this my dose of hugs for the 10 past + 10 future posts as a silent lurker. ^__^

One thing you could do is kind of what Gavin from RoosterTeeth does. Which is replace curse words that are almost either nonsense or 'replacement' words for very obviously curse words. That way when she does curse it has a lot of impact.
