So let's talk about composition for a second here. One thing that isn't totally unique to me, but seems to be a very specific quirk, is that a lot of my illustrations are really just discreet scenes lain out on a single flat plane. I try to give the eye enough space to linger on a section of the image, and that section will tell a very specific piece of information.

It's something you'd see in renaissance paintings and stuff. Of course really good illustrations all have that sort of story telling thing but many other illustrations will incorporate them deeply into the scene that sometimes they get lost. A scene like this, everything is laid out flatly. For better or for worse. One thing it does is makes a scene extremely legible. And where your eye lands, it's practically a whole different story depending on where you're looking.
