Not sure if this should really count as NSFW as it’s clearly a technical piece. I also intended to number these posts but frankly I’d already forgotten what number I was on before, if I had numbered them at all.

This was a roughly 30 minute drawing done over a 20 minute session and a 10 minute session. The model was really excellent and hadn’t moved at all.

The last life drawing thing I did was early January, and it helped me identify problem areas that I had in my art. I had been intending to make life drawing anatomy sessions a regular monthly thing for me but depression and deadlines got in the way. However, that didn’t mean I forgot the areas I still needed to work on. So I sought out more information on things like the shoulders and the knees and I’m starting to get a firmer grasp on what makes them the way they are. And now, as I look at this piece, I realize that my next great challenge is learning to flow all these elements together. Because of how I work, I can get a little myopic about any one part and when I zoom out it will look out of place next to the whole.

I’ll probably do more structured anatomy studies in between my monthly life drawing sessions. It’s like working out. You gotta keep practicing.

I've always thought you had a perfect grasp on the belly shading.
