the last batch of characters for this project! Here is the butcher, who studied with a rabbi to learn the laws of kashrut, particularly kosher slaughter and meat preparation; the seamstress, who people go to for something special like a dress for shabbat, wedding tallit, or torah scroll cover; the moneylender, a widow who has taken up one of the only occupations available to Jews and single women, whose mostly-gentile clients look down on her even while relying on her services; the youth, an optimistic lad at the age for his bar mitzvah, looking forward to taking on a man's role in his community; and the musician, keeper of songs and musical traditions her people brought with them when they fled the Iberian peninsula and the Inquisition for their new Northern European home.
