it's happening in the 50s (while it was made in 1970s)......people of color only performing at the dance, otherwise they are almost nowhere to be seen, definitely not dating any of the main characters. They wouldn't be able to legally marry them..... the cars, the Pepsi ad on the wall, all the references like Doris Day or Elvis .... The original musical was much more raunchy....

Fun fact, The actress who plays Rizzo is the same actress who played one of the aunts in Practical Magic.

So the Guardian Angel character is played by Frankie Avalon who was a huge teen heartthrob in the 1950s and 60s. He often appeared in movies with Annette Funicello, who is the "Annette" that the T-Birds are always talking about. Fun fact: Supposedly the actress who played Frenchie actually had a major crush (as many did at that time) on Frankie Avalon, and the reaction you see on her face as Frankie sings to her is genuine. :)
