I like the conversation between Peter and Miles about keys. It's a callback to the episode where Miles got kicked out of the boarding school; he told his teacher that he was sorry for what he did, but he needed to find his key.

I joined patreon for the "Bly Manor" reactions ^_^ I'm so glad you're enjoying the show even though it's very different from "Hill House." Dani, Jamie, Hannah, and Owen are a truly exceptional ensemble cast.

Ah ok, I wasn't sure if it was a callback or if something else was going on... but I do think Miles was misbehaving out of love/ concern for his sister. And I think that conversation is so revealing about Peter's mindset on people and life in general.

This is my third watch of the series and, with each viewing, I find more and more to enjoy. One would think that repetition would make it tired, but I find it invigorating. I never heard of Mike Flanagan until Hill House. Now I have a new list of movies and mini-series to watch. Thanks for choosing to react to this series, giving me an excuse to watch it again. As always, your commentary is insightful, making me wish I had your knowledge of movie-making and writing. Cheers!

Same here! I first heard of him through my brother talking to me about Hill House (and then realizing that he had been the director of Hush, which I think is an awesome film). I'm glad that you liked my commentary, I really just consider myself a student of the craft of storytelling, but it's something I truly love and can't get enough of. But I can already tell (I'm seven episodes in at this point) that this show has many layers, and its characters are fascinating in their goodness, their desires, and their intricacies,...so I'm not surprised that the it's worth revisiting more than once. Hope you continue to enjoy, I'm excited to see the conclusion!

The cast is so so impressive, every time I think I have a favorite, another actor steals the next scene. I can't really pick which character I like most... but it's Hannah haha

Everytime I watch this series I'm still in awe by how well the children did. They're so hauntingly captivating!

Hmm, I don’t know about this episode. I don’t know if it was the script, direction or execution but I didn’t buy the acting or the development between Rebecca and Peter which is a shame as I love the current cast we have so far. First of all, I wasn’t sold on the forbidden fling between Rebecca and Peter. I found them both cold from the start…and maybe they were going for the “Bonnie and Clyde” angle but I felt disconnected from both these characters. I disliked the original movie Bonnie and Clyde for the same reason so maybe it really was intentional? Regardless, the shift from their “flirting” (if you could call it that) to their sudden night of passion felt forced. There was just something inauthentic about their acting and I just didn’t feel connected enough to Rebecca to understand her decisions. I think they were setting her up as prim and proper at the start to contrast her reckless behaviour later and if they gave a bit more time and depth to Rebecca’s story I think her actions would’ve felt less random. I also didn’t buy the direction they went with Dani and Jamie at the end. I always felt Jamie liked Dani, but I’ve personally not seen any hints from Dani until now. Even in this episode, Dani never hinted at any attraction and so the ending really came out of left field for me. So overall, the execution didn’t feel as organic and that really stood out to me unfortunately. Some predictions: 1. I think Jamie may have been in love with Rebecca…or she definitely knows more than she’s told us. That whole conversation about love and possession makes me think she was involved in what went down with Rebecca and Peter….especially since Peter showed his jealousy this ep. 2. There was something about Peter and the mink coat. I just got a sense that maybe he was close to the mother? I’m not sure how close he was to the kids’ parents but I just got a vibe. 3. Flora…does she sometimes get possessed by Rebecca then? I just noticed in this episode that Flora’s “perfectly splendid” phrase was originally Rebecca’s? Anyway, I’m so behind on this but I’ll see where it goes from here…
