Man... Xander just can't catch a break when it comes to romance and the ladies... But my favorite part of this one was the notion of a villain who was just as much a victim and a unwilling "chosen one" like Buffy.  Some really interesting parallels with those characters.

That’s what I think. The fact that the bodyguard used that specific phrase “you are the chosen one” is no coincidence.

Man I love it when get 2 episodes in one day! Best day ever! I also really enjoy this episode. I find it one of Buffy’s most re-watchable stand alone episodes. The similarities with how Buffy & Fake Ampata is done so well. How both of them are chosen so young to protect their people but it’s also a death sentence. But the differences in how they both react to their destinies is really interesting.

Yes! 2 episodes in one day! You're fantastic Thor! And what great episodes! The introduction to Spike and Druscilla, two of my favourite Buffyverse bad guys and a little bit of Seth Green in this one! Had to feel so bad for the Incan Princess though. Being awoken 500 years after her sacrifice and being forced to take life as the only means of finally having her own. Not true evil or even villainous. Just desperate.

Two episodes, yay! This one's just ok for me but I love Xander's "You're not a praying mantis, are you?" and Oz noticing Willow is so precious. The boy Ampata was trying to life suck (Jonathan) is played by Danny Strong. He has quite the resume.

THIS 😍 - This is why I love your solo reactions Thor! Episode 3 is one of my favs but I enjoyed this reaction so much more! You were completely zoned into all the jokes and all the facial expressions so I had blast with this one :) - Xander…yeah I think he was only thinking of Willow’s lips cause Buffy was away. If Xander can shift back to being platonic the moment an “attractive” girl or Buffy shows up then I don’t think he was ever into Willow that way. I will say that your concern for Willow is really sweet. My heart breaks for her too, especially this episode with all the cut away shots to her face. I know it can be hard when you have a crush but at the same time, Willow needs to give herself more credit and know that she deserves better than to be with someone who doesn’t love her back (in that way)… - Cordy this episode…C’mon you know wanted to laugh 😂 - She was kinda mean but I can never take her seriously cause she’s just so ridiculous. I also loved her outfit because you know she did it just to stand out. I’m not sure what the theme was but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a beach one haha. - There were also some killer lines in the ep so it was fun sharing the laughs. Xander making gaga eyes at “Ampata”, asking if she was a praying mantis and his line “We’re in the crime club. Which is kinda like a chess club, only with crime…and no chess” were some real highlights hahaha. - As for the main story line with “Amapta” I agree that it was cool that she was more of a grey villain and how wanting to live a normal life is very similar to Buffy’s dilemma. I appreciate how this show consistently grounds the reality of being “the chosen one.” Being a hero like Buffy comes with a lot of personal sacrifice and I love that the show never lets up on that burden…it never glorifies being the hero even though it is necessary and admirable that Buffy steps up to the plate every time. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Also I hope you know how much we all appreciate you spoiling us with 2 Buffy eps again! I know you must be swamped but it’s been really great how fast we’re getting into this season already. I cannot wait for next week :)

There is actually a theory that the Inca Princess was a slayer, and that's why she was the one chosen to protect the village, and also explains how she was strong enough to fight off her bodyguard and Buffy.
