This is a fantastic episode for sure. I have really enjoyed Julie's work in Angel so much more during this rewatch. She and David did a phenomenal job in the alley scene - it's absolutely heartbreaking. The concept that Darla loved her son so much that she sacrificed her life so that he could live instead was fascinating. Even though Darla didn't have a soul, it was like she shared her son's soul. I found your reaction to Holtz's last line very interesting. Season 3 is going so strong!

Social Kid

Julie Benz is amazing, but she's number 2. SMG is objectively the best actor in the whole buffyverse. Her talent is peak.

Gung Ho

It was more than just sacrifice for Darla. She really didn't want to go back to her old soulless and evil self. Couldn't bear the thought of that. Julie Benz did earn a much longer stay in the Buffyverse because Whedon and others were big fans of her acting. They had to keep coming up with ways to bring her back. The pregnancy, obviously, being the most outrageous. But it works in the long run because of her acting.

Joe Thornhill

Yeah, Julie Benz did quite a few movie roles after Angel. She was also in Rambo 2008 (4th in the franchise). Then had her next big, long-term role in Dexter.
