Week 237 - Zhukov hits the Ground Running - WW2 - March 11, 1944

The Soviets launch not one, not two, but three offensives in Ukraine this week, designed to destroy the entire southern wing of the German forces. The Japanese counterattack against the Americans on Bougainville finally begins after months of preparations, but there are more Japanese attacks elsewhere that get going: the operation to invade India. typical Stalin negotiation tactic... "what's mine is mine, what's yours is negotiable"....

Alex Amerling

Soon he will be in Berlin...

This is not Stalin specific at all. Look at much of Russian history. They are either doing this to others, or others are doing it to Russia.

I would love for you guys to do a in depth comparison and analysis of generals and also for admirals from all sectors. The likes of Monty and patton, Eisenhower and MacArthur. Rommel, Zhukov. Japanese and Italian and Chinese generals. As an Australian I personally love and adore General moorshead. I even elected to live on a street named in his honour. But I am aware that he is far lower in the scheme of things. Also an often overlooked aspect of Australia’s role in the war is that general Harry chauvel of charge of Beersheba fame pretty much overhauled the Australian army in the 30s and 40s to have them remotely ready for this war. But again as much as I like him I am aware he’s not on the list with the first group I mentioned.

No good will come when fanaticism overrides logic, The Japanese learned that the hard way.

Bose the traitor

D G Rossiter

Traitor to the British Empire for sure. To an independent India? Not so sure.

One of the Glider pilots in Burma as the famous American actor Jackie Coogan. People may recognize him as Uncle Fester in the TV show the Adam Family. He was also a very famous child actor before WW2. My father was a glider pilot during the war. He said that Jackie Coogan had the reputation of being the best American glider pilot. There is a story that when transporting mules he had a guy with a gun in the glider with him to shoot the mule if it became unruly. Since a glider was basically made of canvas and wood, a panicking mule could literally kick out the sides of a glider.

Ask the Koreans, Filipinos, and Chinese how much they enjoyed being occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army.

I've read a Canadian account of those glider rides in to the LZs as well as Road Past Mandalay by John Masters, and they specifically mention a few cases where the mule was shot to save the glider. I don't doubt for a second he had one and may have had to do so.

Getting jacked up with the blessings of group of fully out of mind characters with company of Hitler and company, this traitor thought he would be able to give deliverance to the aspirations of Indians. Obviously he had a copious company with women from the so called Jhansiki rani brigade (another disgrace to the name of great warrior).

And what were the achievement of this traitor. He sort of helped the POMs ruling India to enjoy the fruits of divide and rule policy by breaking the main opposition. That too when the more bestial enemy were at the gates of India in Assam province. He instigated a more serious security threat to India than the POMs could pose at this juncture. Considering the POMs were nothing but a toothless tiger by this time ( Churchill treated like a jocker by Stalin and Roosevelt, he deserved it), it was imperative to support internal strive to get Independence rather than opening your butt to other rapi..t to allow him to try fuc..ing mother India. So Bose is and continue to be a traitor of India for time immortal

I'm still not watching these episodes yet; I'm letting them accumulate because once I binge on them, I usually need to watch a year at a go to be satisfied. But keep going!
