Feels like it has been quite a long while since we have seen some significant focus on the campaigns on the Pacific. Thanks team for the great episode as always.

The comparison of Husky and Overlord is appreciated. It was a fresh perspective from which I learned something significant.

There has been a bit of a lull there. Part of that is that the Combined Chiefs had to determine what the strategy would be there.

Yes, the invasion of Sicily is overlooked. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Um, Indy? It's not just the "into context" episodes that's really great stuff. Everything is!! Keep up the good work!

My uncle was part of Huskey, he waded off of a landing craft onto the beach of Sicily. He was a native speaker of Italian so he spent the remainder of the war in Italy. He told me so many stories, I can't wait for the coverage of Montecasino. It was the worst of the war for him. Thanks for you great videos, they are very enjoyable and really help me understand what my parents went through back "in the day".

Its one of the things the show does well to illustrate compared to more traditional documentaries that jump from key point to point. I hadn't realised there were quite some many lulls in the pacific you just imagine this constant forward push of island hopping after midway.

Has there been a special on Paddy Maine yet? He was the first man on Sicily scaling the cliffs to take out guns.

Ted Jones

The other side of the Huskey equation is that the Axis forces in Sicily and in Italy as a whole were not as impressive as those in France. And if you are comparing Allied amphibious operations, don't forget the even more daunting invasion of the Marianas.

Thanks for sharing that is very interesting. If you have more stories you might want to post these on the forum. We are always interested in learning new stuff :-)

Great idea. TG His life would make a great special. To this day he is a legend to all new members of the SAS👍

Plus time to rebuild the Pacific fleet, which also had received a good deal of losses to 1942

They have not done individual specials on individual soldiers at all yet such as John Basilone on Guadalcanal (winning the Medal of Honor in a historic level and later the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima). Maybe towards the end of the war or after it ends they go back and tell the stories of individual soldiers. Still waiting for specials on the small arms and planes each nation used in WW2. So they have lots of things they could do videos on if they had the staff and time. WW2 is a massive topic.
