Any Gaelic Speakers? (Patreon)

Greetings TimeGhost Army. As some of you might know, we're working on a TimeGhost series covering The Troubles, and we would like to really do justice to pronouncing some Gaelic names. If anyone could help guide us with that, it would help make our series that much better.

I'm a bit rusty with the as Gaeilge and more down to the cúpla focal these days so wouldn't volunteer to translate, but I can sure pronounce if all the Gaeilgeoirs are busy. :)

While not a fluent Gaeilgeoir, I’d like to think I still retain enough proficiency from my school days and by living on the west coast near a Gaeltacht and knowing many native speakers personally!

I have lived in Ireland for many years and know how to pronounce Gaelic names. I could assist you if you wished.

Pronunciation is going to vary depending on who you get help from as well. There's 3 distinct accents in Irish (and more per square mile in English in Ireland than the UN building has).

My father was from Galway Bay. I know that ‘Padraig’ (like the famous golfer) has a hard ‘D’ in Dublin. The same name has a silent ‘D’ out west. Go figure. Not fluent in Irish, I’m afraid, but look forward to sharing the episode with my cousins in Eire.

As a son of the Auld Sod - I will indeed help anyway I can - please send along any problematic names or place names. There can be variations between North/South and East/West pronunciations - even for Hiberno-English - so I will try guide this too.

We have a college here in Nova Scotia which may be helpful! The Gaelic college, I myself know only a handful of words (was my grandmothers first language tho!)

Yep Might be good to consult a few of us natives. I assume you will mainly need help on names of people and towns (all of which vary a bit less from county to county or accent to accent than the rest of the language)
