This episode Sparty discusses the immense bravery of those who fought back against the Nazis in the face of almost certain defeat, as well as the reasons they decided to risk it all to resist. In the Soviet Union and much of Eastern Europe a project of rapid genocide meant that many chose to die fighting rather than surrender to the invaders. In France, the thus far comparatively gentle occupation is becoming more brutal and oppressive, which more French citizens beginning to be coerced into slave labor. As such, the French too are beginning to fight and resist in ways not yet seen in the war.

One thing is certain: wherever the Nazis go, they commit horrific crimes. Thank you all for allowing us to remember the victims of these crimes, as well as those who tried to prevent them.

With the Nazis at the peak of their power in 1942, it is almost certainly brave of many of the resistance fighters to stand up to the Nazis. It must not have been an easy choice for a lot of them given the risks. Never forget.

One thing for sure, the coercition on french labor is one of many big event that turn the tide toward more passive and active resistance from Frenchmen/women especially in the South. Because now, it is not just "do nothing and live" but "work for the Nazi and continue to crush France".... Even so : the one who chose active or passive resistance had a real bravery at the time and the more time pass, the more resistance will be seen has the "right" thing to do, especially when the veil of Vichy France will be taken off and the reality of the Nazi power seen.

Thank you for this, Spartacus. I can't imagine how painful the research and exposition must be. I salute your bravery and those who assist you. I write this with tears in my eyes. Some tears are for the murdered, and truthfully, some are for me and my country, the USA. It seems, so far, that many in the USA have forgotten, and we will likely fall victim to the same Nazi mindset.

Kinda hard to read "Jews will not replace us" and "Camp Auschwitz" as anything but a Nazi mindset...

Watching you, Indy, and all since the WWI series gives me the impression that I am getting to watch a contemporary Gibbon on Rome or Thucydides writing our own Peloponnesian War.

Exactly Jason. Adam is a troll, trying to distract from this important and painful project, whether he actually believes this blather or not. These ideologues are making a comeback in many countries around the world. But this is not a new phenomenon in the USA, after all the American Nazi Party did manage to fill Madison Square Garden....

We’ve removed a comment and a reply here. The OP to which the reply was is a nonpartisan (well, anti-Nazi but otherwise non-partisan) observation about current affairs in the US in line with why we must learn from history. Unfortunately pertaining to people who have observably not learnt anything, or think genocide is OK. We accept and encourage such commentary. The comment and reply we removed were only partisan opinion, making false equivalences between Naziism and political opponents, while blatantly denying that observable reality is what it is. We struggled with this. We’re not friends of censoring you guys, especially here in the TGA. We concluded that there was no way to fix this without looking like we’re coming down on the wrong side. Leaving the comment up looks like being OK with denialism and neo-Nazi rhetoric. Because the way it was framed, taking down the comment might make it look like we’re taking the left side in US politics. Taking the whole thread down is censoring simple observations about reality and creating a “safe zone” to not offend anyone, which costs us all credibility as documentarians. In the end we chose the lesser evil and removed the comment only. To be clear: we did not remove it for being critical of left wing politics. We removed it for reasons of denying observable reality and claiming that there are no neo-Nazis in America, and for making false equivalences between the handling of an ongoing public health crisis, and the genocidal regime of Nazi Germany.

Well assembled content, nicely delivered. I thought the Peral Harbor special was great.
