This week, the Germans continue to advance in the Soviet Union, but as is now becoming very clear to everyone this advance is not going to plan. Soviet troops are not being captured in numbers anywhere near than those of the encirclements in 1941. After capturing a whole lot of nothing, extending their supply lines, and burning up fuel, the German forces finally reach one of the major oil producing cities in the USSR. The Soviets, as anyone who was paying attention would know, do not allow a single drop of this to fall into German hands, and do a spectacular job of destroying anything that could be remotely of use to the invaders.

There is action happening even further east too, as the Japan and the Allies, especially the US, fight fiercely in the air, sea, and land, for small pacific islands. This leads to a naval engagement know as the Battle of Savo Island, which scores Japan naval victories for but falls short of their objective of of halting a US invasion.

Thank you all for your outpouring of support yesterday. We really want to keep things on schedule, but when we mess up it feels good to know you are all so understanding and patient. Lucky to have you TGA.

155 - No Soviet Oil for Hitler - WW2 - August 14, 1942

The Axis advance into the Caucasus is going great... except the oil towns they take have no oil, and wasn't that the whole purpose? Meanwhile in the Pacific, the US Navy is suffering perhaps its greatest defeat ever off Savo Island, even as the Marines take Tulagi, Gavutu, and Tanambogo. Just to "second" what Dickson said at the top. You guys do a ton of great work...we completely understand the delay. Wishing you all the best!

Ah you mentioned what locals called "the Battle of the Five Sitting Ducks"...Now to watch...

Bravo for another wonderful episode. The Nazis reach the oil fields only to watch them go up in smoke. Those Russians were masters of the scorched earth tactics.

Regarding the delays: I see this series as something of value for years to come. That some episode is delayed by a few hours or weeks, doesn't matter in the long run. I'm a patron not for the weekly episodes, but for the full work you are creating.

I second this! Being a patron for me means that I support the creation of this wonderful archive of history related videos. The early access is just nice bonus when it happens but certainly not the reason to stay a patreon! Keep up the good work TimeGhost team!!

Completely agree that delays are not a problem, it is the quality of these episodes that matters and never seen one that doesn’t deliver. As the previous poster said, these pieces will hold immense archive value to future generations so delays to publication are of no importance.

Thank you for this episode. No worries on the delay.

Takao-classs Heavy cruiser is probably a typo :-)

03:18 Narration is, "...situation appeared well in hand. The subtitle is swell instead of well.

Is anything happening in China?

I would love this channel to do a post on the overlooked heroism of the Italian merchant marine, the completely overlooked service that performed its mission to keep Axis forces in Africa supplied credibly well despite the long odds and horrific losses right up to early 1943.

Yea seems like there isn't much going on the last months :/
