This week, under supplied U.S troops are yet again forced back in the Philippines, while at Singapore attempts to defend the vital port city seem only symbolic, though there is some luck at sea in the Pacific. In North Africa, the German forces see some success, but are forced to stop and wait for resupply before they're able to turn it into a full triumph. In the Soviet Union, temperatures hit an unthinkable -50 Celsius as both German and Soviet troops carry out excruciating offensive and defensive manoeuvres.

Finally, to understand what it means to be short of supplies in war, we leave you with this classic World War Two Poem.

The Battling Bastards of Bataan

We’re the battling bastards of Bataan;
No mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam.
No aunts, no uncles, no cousins, no nieces,
No pills, no planes, no artillery pieces.
And nobody gives a damn.
Nobody gives a damn.

Fortress Singapore Stands Alone! - WW2 - 127 - January 30, 1942

The Japanese advance on Singapore has gotten close enough that the British have destroyed the causeway to Singapore Island. The Japanese are also making attacks in the Solomon Islands, Burma, the Philippines, and the Dutch East Indies- their threat to Australia is real. Erwin Rommel's surprise spoiler offensive in North Africa takes Benghazi, and on the eastern front the Soviets break a hole in the German lines in the north even as the temperature drops to the -50s. Can we get the percival bashing party back up and running

Aye he is. He had the balls to occupy the Sultan of Johore's palace which was one of the tallest buildings in Johore Bahru and had excellent views of Fortress Singapore, despite his military advisors telling him it was a big target for the British.

You have a typo at the end of the post in the word 'manoeuvres'.

Idea for Crimes Against Humanity or a biography segment: Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese consular diplomat based in Lithuania. He issued over 6,000 visas to Jews fleeing the Nazis. Similar to Schindler in saving many innocents. Quite the twist
