This week, the Wansee Conference is held just outside Berlin. During this conference powerful Nazis lay out plans to systematically murder all Jewish people within their grasp, though systematic murder has already been occurring in many places since the start of the war.

In North Africa, German forces catch the British off guard as their unexpected unit strength gives them the power needed to advance to the east. In the Soviet Union, offensives are increasingly hitting a brick wall, as plans become more and more ambitious. Finally, despite set backs, Japan continues it's steady drive on Singapore via land.

Oh, and Winston Churchill almost died this week.

The Formalization of Extermination - The Wansee Conference - WW2 - 126 - January 23, 1942

Nazi Germnay's "Holocaust by Bullets" has already claimed over a million lives over the past 8 months; this week German authorities hold a conference to streamline and systematize the process of extermination. Gas will now be the preferred method of murder. The Japanese are murdering Allied soldiers that fall into their hands as they advance ever closer to Singapore. The Soviet offensive continues along the entire Eastern Front, but the orders and objectives grow ever more confusing and chaotic. In North Africa, Erwin Rommel launches a surprise offensive against the Allies and make a lightning advance the final two days of the week. Sparty needs to do a special episode on this one (The Wannsee Conference). Would also do to highlight the movie “Conspracy” (2001), which dramatizes the meeting that was the Wannsee Conference.

Never forget`

And to think that some people deny this ever happened it is shameful

curious that the day of the conference is the US's inauguration day.

Anonymous

I watched it , Kenneth Brannagh displayed a great performance on that one.

This was not the day I was waiting for but it is vital we never forget.

Certainly one of the darkest days in human history. And I do not envy Spartacus, presenting the Wars against humanity subseries - this is really heavy stuff, when you dig into this. I remember when I saw Claude Lanzmanns "Shoa" - it was "only" interviews with survivors but it was hard to watch.

3:45 Those are New Zealanders, not Australians.

Agree re the movie Conspiracy. Awesome. Mainly because it is played in such a low key way. Like any senior management meeting in the modern world. It just happens to be about genocide. That’s scary. Also wanted to recommend the Ericsson book Indy quotes. I have road Road to Stalingrad three times. It is very accomplished history.perhaps not as smooth a read as more modern works but excellent

I tried to find some information on the Battle of the Points to get the name of the patrol boat that helped prevent the Japanese attempt at outflanking Bataan's defenders on the West Coast, but wasn't able to find much; do you have some info? Would be cool to find out more details about the engagement, order of battle, commanders, etc. Splitting the attack, sinking two ships while capturing the plans of the operation seems like quite a feat!

Just join because you deserve any support!!! Watching you guys for since WWI and you are awesome!!!!

I was able to find more information about this. Back in the US they also thought that was quite a feat and they awarded the Medal of Honor to John Duncan Bulkeley for his actions during the battle!
