BRIEF

Commission to create a sexy anthro pinup piece of a Changeling original character, Tani.

 Mirage/Tani Art by LuneBat

CONCEPT ART

I had been a tad rusty when it came to drawing more humanoid characters before I took on this commission.

I definitely had to practice.

Featured on a previous post.

The first version of the sketch had the provocativeness that I was aiming for but it was very messy.

I cleaned up the cluster of lines and used grayscale to block out my values.

Lowering the opacity of the value image, I drew over cleaning up the line work.

Attempted to block some shading, but at this point of the night I was very tired. I left the piece for a day to come back with fresh eyes.

A semi decent sleep later.

I lowered the opacity of the attempted shading and proceeded to fix up areas that I now noticed.

The entire face was redrawn, adjusted the hair to fir ref better.

Them boobs where a wild beast to control. I think I got it.

Flipped the canvas, the boob was still acting unruly. I got it now - I hope.

LINE ART

COLOUR

BACKGROUND, THE DOOR AND WALL

Using the Marquee Tool I blocked out the door shapes. Skewing the door adding perspective to the open door.

I moved the door into the door frame.

Using the Quick Selection Tool /Magic Wand Tool I selected different areas of the door. On a New Layer above I use the Gradient Tool to create the lighting coming through the door frame.

A | Only the grey parts of the door were selected. A white gradient was applied, coming from inside the frame.

B | The red indent pattern on the door was selected. A darker red gradient was applied, coming from inside the frame.

C | The outer grey wall was selected. A darker grey gradient going up the wall from the bottom of the frame was applied.

This was something new, just experimenting with different shading and lighting techniques as I learn.

BACKGROUND, THE BATHROOM

Similar process as the door and frame. I blocked out the mirror and surroundings with simple shapes, adding slight gradients so that are not plain, flat colours.

Taking the flat colour layer of the character I manipulated it into the mirror as if were a reflection. I recoloured the areas where her hair and gown would be reflected.

Added a slight blur and reflection is done.

Adjusted the colours in the bathroom, so the lighting can be seen.

LIGHTING EFFECTS

NOTE: I was not able to get the work in progress of this area, however I made an example of how I made the simple mirror lights.

SHADING AND LIGHTING

Added soft  cast shadows around the door.

Added a large dark gradient coming from the bottom of the character.

Drawing and erasing with a soft edge brush.

Setting the blending mode to Multiply and lowering the Opacity to 50%.

On a new layer and using a white Hard Brush I traced around the character to create the rim lighting.

DOOR GLOW EFFECTS

On a new layer, I painted in a rough white shape in the door frame (in the example I used red  for clarity)

Turning the Layer Opacity down to 20%.

FINAL DETAILS

Added the wings, cleaned up a few things and I am doneth.

REFLECTION

Branching out from my usual stuff. I really wanted to push my lighting  with this. There is some areas that are nice and others that need work.

MORE PRACTICE.
