You gotta love this big tentacle face thing. He is uber cute and MLEMly (is that a word? It is now?).

Non picking up/cuddling lock down, lock obviously complaining but not doing much against it because he secretly likes the attention.

Blocking It Out

Because Non Toxic is HUGE compared to Lock Down, I had to make a composition that would fit them both nicely. I opted to make Non Toxic acting more like a happy dog, playing to get him closer to the ground and closer to Lock Down.

Blocked out Non Toxic first. Nailed the pose almost straight away. Nice.

After blocking Non's pose I blocked out Lock's.

The Poses

Lock's pose is much more awkward and uncomfortable looking while Non's has a pouncy flow.

Line Art

Just like all my line art I did what I would normally do. Lowered the opacity  and added a new layer above and off I go.

My under sketch acts as guide. When it comes to line arting I will not copy it directly but fix or adjust as I go.

I see quite a few artist getting them caught on cleaning up the line art but not fixing the areas that need attention. The sketch should guide but not define.

Those Damn Tenties

For the tentacles I tried something very different to help speed up my process. Rather than trying to struggle drawing the line art of the tentacles I brought the coloured work into Adobe Illustrator.

I used different colours to separate each tentacle

I traced over the sketched tentacles in Illustrator with a thick line stroke and expanded the lines and added a thickness to the lines and exported the tentacles as their own line art.

Above is the exported tentacles on their own before I changed them to fit the characters better.

I erased and redrew the areas that needed to fix. Areas like where the tentacles go behind limbs and body parts and the areas where the the tentacles start to wrap around.

Coloured Tentacles

After I cleaned the lineart I coloured the tentacles in my normal fashion.

Added them highlights and shadows.

I am trying more dynamic poses. Urghhh - I am getting there.
