"Is this like House?" No, it's more of a palace. Ba-dum-tiss As for the kidnappers thing, think of it like indentured servitude or debt payment. Let's say some old man borrows money from you and can't pay. You go to collect, and he has no money, no possessions worth a damn, can't work to pay you back, but... he has a kid. He sells you the kid to pay off his debt. Well, what good is a kid to you? It's just another mouth to feed out of your own pocket. But kids can work. So, you draft a contract and rent out the kid's labour to a third party. When the kid earns enough to pay off the debt, they get to go free. If their employer wants to keep them, then the employer keeps paying them, and the kid earns 100% of their pay from that point. This is a formerly legal way of recouping debts, but as you can see, it's riddled with problems. All it takes is a few corrupt people to kidnap a kid, claim their parent had a gambling or drinking debt (which the kid will deny even if it were true), and essentially the kidnappers have free income for 2 years. As you see in the next episode, the kidnappers only get a cut of her pay, not the whole thing, so her labour still goes to support her family. So this is such a structured and common thing, that there are RULES about how much the kidnappers could take, so as not to leave old people to starve to death as their only means of support is taken away. Rules that people who are willing to commit fraud and kidnapping are either too scared, or completely unable to break. Fascinating in abstract.

Just to classified. Maomao left the note for both the coccubine. But Lihua coccubine didn't take it seriously and throw the note out. So that lead to her child demises.
