It's maybe more oratorical, but I much prefer the kodansha translation of 'All for the sake of the love we have lost.' It makes it very clear Canute is talking about Original Sin, the fall and humanity being forsaken by God and with divine love. "All for lost love,' makes it sound like he had a bad breakup or something.
