I feel like Paul has been striking out for a year and a half when it comes to news of his family, despite tapping every resource available to him to try and find them. His hope that his genius, mature, incredibly talented son would be ok turned into an expectation that where Paul failed Rudy would definitely succeed. He had to realize that his assumption was just something that he fabricated, and to take the situation for what it is and be happy that this small yet significant reunion was an incredibly good outcome.

Something not mentioned in the anime. Rudy still has to say healing spell like ordinary people. And those 2 girls with Paul, the one who dresses skimpy is actually doing so to drag male attention away from the other girl because of some horrible stuff that happened to her, she cant handle males looking at her.
