ben here!!! Hope you guys are doing well, here is a list of a couple of updates for the fam

1. Mushoku is going to be released tomorrow along with Steins;Gate, I have been sick the past few days and planned to record today but I'm coughing every like 5 seconds so it is super annoying. Picking up medicine to deal to suppress that in the morning so that will be good. (:


2. Future projects and additions! We have 1 project that is in development right now that we are super excited about. Gonna keep it vague, but it is not a reaction (We mainly do reaction videos and that's what you guys are here for, so we will be sacrificing no channel time to this project and will be doing this in our free time for fun) and we also plan to incorporate Movies once again into our schedule! New camera and SD cards are allowing for longer recording time!


3. Backup Camera is now Active, so no more footage loss unless both things fail separately which would just be stupid and i hope i didn't just conjure that possibility into existence.


4. Things put into place that will allow us to communicate more with you guys. We have another person helping with comments and filtering them so that we will be able to interact with you guys more, which to be frank, is the most exciting news we have had in awhile. Also apparently there is a sort of Director's Cut of Re:Zero??? We are looking into it as much as we can but I am unsure if it is too late to start watching it now? Would we have to rewatch the past episodes in that Version? If you guys have any thoughts, please leave them below!


5. Would anyone be interested at all in a Q&A? If not, totally understand. Maybe even per show we could do something along those lines (:

Regarding Re:Zero's Director's Cut. A quote from my friend who had something to say but isn't a patreon so I'm posting the message instead: "I do not think it's advisable to switch over to the director's cut, although it would admittedly be easy to do so, because it adds almost nothing to the experience. The changes made are almost all extremely minor, such that it's genuinely difficult to notice them without a side-by-side comparison. The one scene that it does add was rendered entirely redundant by season 2 including it as well. All this would be fine except that it also combines the episodes into double-length packages that would almost inevitably result in you as reactors having less time for theorycrafting and discussion. Essentially, there's no compelling reason to switch over to it, and doing so at the very least runs the risk of sacrificing some of the discussion time that I and others so love to hear from you both." Note: I myself am fine with either option for Re:Zero.

Director’s Cut is needed but you would be in the middle of an episode, so watch the next episode regularly and the one after that on director mode.

I would recommend the directors cut simply because at the pace of an episode a week you probably won't be done until next year, whereas with the directors cut you might be done just in time for season 3 which comes out later this year.

On point 4 for Re:Zero: Yes, the director's cut extends some scenes and gives the real seasonal ending, which was cut from the standard running variante. The directors cut runs in a 2-episode per episode format. So, episode 1a and episode 1b is episode 1 in the director's cut. Episode 2 and episode 3 is episode 2 director's cut. I think content wise; it would be a better decision to go with the director's cut if you think you will watch season 2 directly afterwards. As season 3 was announced and prop will air next year in spring (not confirmed yet), timewise it would be better i think to watch the director's cut. In combination with season 2 (25 episodes), you probably will have enough time to finish before season 3. Traffic wise/Business wise, it would be the best idea to be ready to react to season 3 when its airing.

Regarding point 4, you don't need to react to the past episodes, most added content is later than episode 4 of the normal version. You can start with episode 3 of the directors cut halfway to skip what you've already watched, or watch episode 5 normaly and then start with the directors cut from episode 4. Also, for point 5. Yeah a Q&A would be great.

Re0 Director's cut overall improves animation quality and has pretty much no negatives. You can switch to that after next episode

I second the switch to the director's cut after the next episode. This will mean you'd be done with season 1 much sooner. A Q&A is a welcome thing, yeah 👍

Oh yeah, I'd love to see you switch to the Director's cut of Re:Zero. It does mean longer episodes but an overall improved experience!

A pretty comprehensive guide on watching Re:Zero Season 1 You can see a comprehensive guide on the frame by frame differences of the Re:Zero directors cut here: https://myanimelist.net/featured/2311/Whats_New_in_the_Re_Zero_Directors_Cut. You can have your mod take a look through or you can take a look at the episodes you’ve already watched to get a feel for the differences. None the less, I’ll summarize the differences and then my own thoughts on it, and what I recommend for you. There are 3 different versions of Re:Zero Season 1. I’ll name them 2016a: the original version that was shown on tv in 2016 2016b: the blu ray version that was released in 2016. Directors Cut (DC): the version that was released in 2020. Currently you are watching either 2016a or 2016b, (I think 2016a since I didn’t see the eyeball right before the episode title on episode 5). The big difference between the versions is the number of episodes. Both 2016 versions have 25 (24 minute) episodes and the directors cut has 13 (50 minute) episodes. Let me show with an example, in this example, the numbers refer to the episode number and the letters refer to roughly 25 minutes of content covered. 2016a: Episode 1a (A) -> Episode 1b (B) -> Episode 2 (C) -> Episode 3 (D) 2016b: Episode 1 (AB) -> Episode 2 (C) -> Episode 3 (D) DC: Episode 1 (AB) -> Episode 2 (CD) The big difference between 2016a and 2016b is that 2016b has a few gory scenes uncensored, as well as general art touch ups (which is pretty usual for blu ray editions, these changes are usually just some extra stuff that the staff didn’t have time to touch up before releasing the episode on tv, since they work on episodes sometimes even the day before they release). The DC differences from 2016B. Artwise, the DC has a few redrawn scenes, but you won’t notice them unless you have watch them frame by frame, side by side. Theres also a number of slightly extended shots (think shot is held for 5.6 seconds instead of 4.9 seconds) and notably there aren’t any changed voice lines (so most of these are just pauses or extended fades). There are also some music changes, notably around the endings, where they removed some of the ending song and credits rolling over the final scene for a credit roll after the final scene. Subtitles. This is hard to talk about because I don’t know what subs you are watching. But the DC uses the official subs, which are a little bit less then stellar. They’re pretty good most of the time, though it fucks up titles. Notably “Witch of Envy” turns into “Jealous Witch” and “Sword Saint” turns into “Master Swordsman”. But some copies of the 2016 versions also use the official subs and have these issues as well. The Final Scene. Ok lets talk about the elephant in the room, the final scene of the DC (don’t worry no spoilers). At the end of the DC, there is an additional scene that was not included in the 2016 version. This is a highly important scene, and no doubt people are clambering to have you watch the scene (this is one of the most anticipated scenes of the anime). However, this scene is duplicated at the start of Season 2, and honestly, I recommend that you watch it at the start of Season 2 and skip the DC version of it. I really hate how they translated the scene in the DC, and I think their translator should of been fired for it. I honestly think that the way they translated the final scene really ruins reactions by using active tone instead of passive tone (I won’t get into more because of spoilers, but you can clearly understand part of the line, and the subs translate the other part at the same time). All in all, the differences between the 3 versions are pretty minor and with the proper handling, you can use any of the 3 versions. My recommendations for you, would be to watch the 2016b version if that is available to you. Otherwise you can watch the DC. Now the DC has double length episodes, so I would recommend that you keep to your current schedule and only watch half of a DC episode (you can tell when they end when the episode title pops up) so that way you can keep watching in 25 minute blocks and your workload is the same. Now there are also 2 OVA’s which we can talk about. The first is Memory Snow (MS) and Frozen Bond (FB). They were both released between Season 1 and 2, and so I recommend watching them both after Season 1. However, they chronologically take place between Arc 2 and Arc 3 (I won’t say what episode as to not indirectly spoil you), and you can watch it there, and MS is placed there in the DC. However, I think it’s a slightly better experience watching it after Season 1. FB sort of takes place after MS (only like 10% of it takes place in the present time, the other 90% is a flash back) and you should most definitely watch FB before you watch Season 2, as it’s highly relevant to it. MS is also canon but you don’t miss that much if you don’t watch (though I recommend that you watch it as well). I would not put too much stock into Season 3 airing next spring. They didn't even announce a release year, so while a Spring 2024 airing makes the most sense if we assume another 25 episodes (which also isn't confirmed) I think it's far too early to say that AutoSave will be late to Season 3 if they continue at their current pace. Personally, I don't think it would be that difficult to have 2 Re:Zero episodes a week for a few weeks later on if it does end up being a Spring 2024 release and they want to catch up.
