the fact they created an entirely brand new studio, Studio Bind, just to fully adapt the entire Mushoku Tensei source material is truly incredible, we are so lucky. they poured their hearts and souls into the production of this series, from the music, to the animation, the voice acting, everything is perfect.

Yeesh, everytime I see this episode I really get annoyed with the show. Casually dropping the "Paul is a straight up rapist, but it's okay, later his victim ends up working for him and gets a crush and impregnated by him, it's all fine". And our lovely protagonist calls him scum sure... but then also admits he admires him. Not to mention planning in the very same episode to groom an emotionally vulnerable child into his submissive fantasy wife with a disgusting smile on his face. This goes waaaay beyond "protagonsit with flaws" already imo. Not all bully victims end up sexual predators, it's not an excuse.

As usual, loved the reaction and I have to say, you guys are handling and analyzing the polarizing aspects of this show like absolute champs! It's a pleasure to see you guys dig deeper and understand the characters and their behaviors unlike other reactors who just make weird faces and or stop watching altogether. It's also refreshing to see such a peak isekai in terms of world building and creativity be bound by realistic elements as well, can't think of any others that would drop a bomb like Paul's actions in the 4th episode when everything has been going near perfect until then for Rudy and everyone. Really glad you both are enjoying it!

Gotta think about the period though, yes it was wrong, but Paul was a pretty high noble, unfortunately such things would be realistic in a feudal society. That said, he didn't seem to get off completely without punishment since he was forced to flee the sword training hall. If I recall, Lilia suffered a wound which limited her ability to work as a armed guard, so she was lucky to find the listing to be Paul and Zenith's maid. Yes, what Rudy was contemplating with Sylphie was wrong, but taking away his internal monologue it wouldn't have been that unusual. If he was a normal boy it would have been entirely expected that he might marry Sylphie when he grew up given their close relationship and the limited availability of partners in a small village. It also wouldn't be unusual for the girl to try to learn the boy's interests (i.e. magic in this case) - Mentally he is older but isn't like he is some 60 year old man creating some child bride, he is her age, do you expect Rudy to marry a 50 year old woman or is he just not allowed to have a relationship? *************Spoiler****************** That being said we've seen his relationship with Eris and at no time did he "groom" her, she stayed herself for the years they've known each other. I don't understand people using that single thought as a way to label him as irredeemably bad when he spends his entire life becoming a better person.
