And just like that this show becomes a Faustian story lol

As an avid Kyoko fan, I withheld any comment about her arc until this episode, but I'm really excited to share an observation I made while rewatching along with you. The immediate, visceral, negative reaction you had to Kyoko made me take a critical eye to all of her interactions and notice something that just makes me love the writers even more: There is a massive gap between what Kyoko *says* and what she *does*. Despite her provocations, she never actually attacks anyone in the show (with one exception). She fights back and counter attacks, but despite *saying* some pretty messed up things ("You should go in there and break his arms and legs"), never *acts* on them, doesn't even try. The ally fight, where she first meets Sayaka is of particular interest, since so far our only interaction with Kyoko is her saying she's going to take Sayaka out of the running. But what she *does* is show up, talk about the food chain and only actually attacks when Sayaka attacks her. And even then, she doesn't fight back aggressively. Now, that doesn't make the verbal jabs okay, but it's what *makes* her character, she wants to be this cold, aggressive pragmatist, but she can't actually make herself do it. The dichotomy comes out in her actions. I just noticed it this time through and it's just chef kiss writing; subtly implying her character arc to plant the idea in the viewer's head without actually taking away from her place as an antagonist.
