This is one of those examples where I think I may have gone much farther down the rabbit hole than any reader of these guides may ever care to go -
but, I'd be pleased to be wrong!
The Champions previously had their home on my Hercules guide. Since you could grab their 70s series in a single hardcover or paperback, it was a pretty easy thing to explain!
Then Marvel had to go and dredge up the "Champions" IP all over again in All-New, All-Different Marvel and throw all of their young heroes into the title rather than the much more logical "New Warriors."
Suddenly I found myself referencing The Champions from half a dozen other guides. That's always a sign that I need a new guide page - every time I duplicate a link to the same run of the same series on a different guide page it's just adding to the liability factor of trying to keep them all up to date.
Breaking Champions onto their own page allowed me to track their historical team appearances much more specifically. I'm convinced this is now the most-detailed resource covering the read order of the original team of the Champions on the entire internet.
The same is true for my Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur page. What started out as just finding a place to link to Moon Girl's popular line of trade paperbacks and the single volume of the 1978 Jack Kirby series quickly turned into a personal mission to improve the existing chronological thinking about Devil Dinosaur's order of appearances from 1979 to 2015.
I'm certain I now have the most-correct chronology for the bright red dinosaur on the entire internet.
(Weirdly, the common factor between both guides is Godzilla. Both The Champions and Devil Dinosaur appeared in the licensed comic back in its 1978-79 run, which was actually a pretty strong comic. Who knew?!)
If you haven't guessed based on the past few Patron relases, my mission this month is to cover every series published in Marvel Legacy, just as I did for DC Rebirth last December.
The Rebirth Guide has been amazing in allowing me to quickly answer questions from new DC fans, and I've been asked about having that same utility for Marvel many times over. Now I'll have it for Legacy, and from there I can work my way back to ANAD, Now, and the Heroic Age.
That means I still have about a half dozen more of these smaller Marvel Guides for you (and one or two bigger ones) to wrap up Marvel Legacy before I plunge back into my DC work and poll you for more Patrons' Choice picks. I've finished the chronology of all the remaining guides, but the guest appearance checking and formatting takes some time to complete.
(Plus, I've got a special video surprise this weekend for folks in the Crushing Comics Club.)
As always, I value your feedback - both on this new guide and in general. Don't hesitate to comment with ideas, critiques, and suggestions!
