MAXIMS

When a house is full of junk, it is no longer a home—it is a landfill with four walls.

Hold your preferences loosely, because every preference comes prepacked with a cost.

If you don’t like it, you don’t have to do it.

There are better ways to signal your worth than soon-to-be-worthless material possessions.

Anyone who says you can’t compare apples and oranges doesn’t understand comparisons (or fruit).

Where you live isn’t as important as why you live there.

It is possible to value a thing without depending on it.

Everything you own can fit in three piles: essential, nonessential, and junk.

I just need a some encouragement to minimize what’s in my fridge. Please tell me what’s in yours. I want permission to let go of stuff. Lol. Thanks.

Manny

My fridge is a mess! Hehehe! But...I'm going to clean it up...

I think this was a great episode. My favorite parts are when TK spoke about not assuming someone else is happy or sad because of certain things and that baggage or difficulties do not come along with the life one chooses to live. I like the part when TK speaks about Jeff Goings saying do not envy other people’s work unless you envy the process, do not envy the results unless you envy the commitments that go along with those results and how TK elaborated on that was so profound. The second portion that really spoke to me was when Josh and TK were speaking after showing the 6 figure handbag video clip and that entire conversation about the desire to have certain items just for the sake of showing other people I have this and you do not. Thank you for this conversation and episode of substance.

I'm the one who submitted the question about my partner using mdma and I want to thank you gentlemen for your perspectives. My partner and I have come to a healthy agreement since then where he can take mdma as long as its not a regular occurrence. It works for us and we're very happy together. I give my sincerest thanks to JFM and TK for their input.

Oh my goodness that video of the kid wanting to keep his stuff at Mom's house was the best! It remined me of shortly after I graduated college every time I went home to visit my folks I left with a few boxes of random stuff that belonged to me. Many times resulting in a stop at Goodwill to drop it off on my way home.

I think my favorite part was the purse video. It’s a cute bag, but it doesn’t look any different than something you could get at Target.

I’m going on an 11-day cruise. Any ideas on how to stay a minimalist and still look presentable? Any suggestions on what to bring to be comfortable, travel light, and have everything that I need. Thanks.

Check out episode 406, "Travel Light." We answer a few similar questions with minimalist traveler Light Watkins.

to Brian and the theme days: that would be my nightmare ;-) but what I might wear: my personal interpretation of the theme based on what I have or what I can lend from a friend. just a small sign to your team that you try within your means. that could also be a shirt with a theme quote (like TK mentioned on a paper pinned) on it. this could be just a small item related to the theme, a minimalistic sign. you can always re-use material like boxes, old fabric, paper, magazines or you can use body paint or makeup. it's all about creativity and interpretation and humor.

If you'd like to send in a voice recording, this would be a great listener tip to feature on a future episode!

I really enjoyed enjoy the song at the end by Halftribe. Also the segment before that which touched upon doing things for the sake of habit. Worth stopping and taking a moment to really know why you’re doing a ‘thing’.

First time Patreon interaction. I'm working through randomly but yes it really is a different experience. Finally hearing the closing songs that you don't get on public version is a delight!

Phenomenal podcast. Loved this one. TK is great with those 60 second summaries. Ending it with the half tribe was great as well. If you enjoyed that Josh you should check out “Tycho” the song in particular (awake) Very similar and great driving music! For those struggling with guilt while trying to get rid of something. A lot can be answered by just simply asking yourself. “What purpose does this thing serve? And or “Will I feel free after letting this thing go? Thanks Minimalists
