I like that we start with Wulff not hearing Redd. Sure he’s exhausted, but it also reminds us he isn't all-powerful. Is Vinnera not technically human? Or are we making a distinction about eliciting desire? I like establishing the goddess’ hand in this, while switching between who was intended as a gift for who. And it’s my favorite answer: both. There are a few points of humor (the wagging tail, “I may have to react,” a bit around 42 minutes that smacks of ‘you talk too much,’) that are really well-placed. The she-wolves (and other she-creatures) rule the woods—I think that kind of general power commentary works better than establishing each group as matriarchal. And it reminds me of lions. The lionesses hunt. It’s interesting to have the idea of the pair being guided by the wildling goddess to find each other, to be blessed as a pair, and still have the idea of choice. Coming back is treated as an option, as is casting Wulff off. That’s good.
