I guess we all knew this was inevitable.  In a couple of months Patreon is going to have to start charging sales tax on pledges, which will come as an additional charge over and above your pledge amount.

Not all of you will be affected.  The tax depends on where YOU, the Patrons, live and what your local law says is taxable.  Vague estimates put the rates between 5 - 11% in the US, and as high as 25% internationally, depending on your country.  Sometime at the end of the month Patreon will be implementing some sort of tax control panel for creators .. I'm envisioning a detailed questionnaire where I describe what sort of reward is in each tier, and then based on that they will determine whether you are supposed to be taxed, and how much.  Many of you, I'm hoping, won't be taxed at all (but commission tier, alas, involves tangible goods so I don't think there's any escape for you.)

It's all a couple of months away.  Patreon will be sending you all an official announcement toward the end of May, but I thought I'd share the early heads-up I just got, so you can start fretting about it along with me well in advance.  Enjoy!

Ultimately I don't mind a little bit of tax on my end, especially given the high quality artwork you've drawn for me^^

That's stupid, you're not selling anything.

eh not surprised. They did the same thing with online purchases awhile ago cause states got pissed at the loss of income from online sales.

well I will still support you but that means i will probably start dropping some other pledges to stay in a certain budget.

😅 those taxes have been applied to me for more than a year... and since i'm italian they're something like 22% because patreon is considered "luxury goods".
