The color outline looks very stylish in the examples that are used. Plus, this may also assist with identifying characters off panel without needing to draw in heads in speech bubbles. So, I voted for that.

I think it is a good way of identifying people without need an headshot attached the speech bubble. Some of the other artists I follow do the same thing with a coloured bubble and blank background

Agreed, though I think if a character has not spoken in a while and suddenly speaks off-panel, like Craig recently, a small head can still be useful (and fun).
