EDWARD: Iwillpostnothing asks: You've made it abundantly clear that the intelligence of the average citizen isn't exactly up to snuff. Is there anything you propose can be done about it? And, ofrantingandrobots asks: Would you consider the average Gotham citizen unintelligent by normal standards, or do they simply seem that way when compared to the likes of you and the Batman? And, valoscope asks: Would you actually be happier if everyone were as intelligent as you, or would you miss being on top too much to consider it? And, anonymous asks: Oh Riddler, can you please explain why the world is full of the most idiotic species in the universe? All except you, of course!

What can be done about the intelligence of the masses? Can people be made smarter? Well, I'll work on it. Right after I solve that pesky world peace problem. I have plans of course - everybody does - but I doubt I'll live to see them implemented. Ignorance really is bliss, you know. Especially when it frees you from personal responsibility. Do I consider the usual Gothamite unintelligent? Statistically, no. Scores in the GCPS are slightly lower than the nationwide average, but that can be attributed to a number of factors. It doesn't help that most of the smart ones turn to crime instead of getting their diplomas, either. 

No, Gothamites are average, unfortunately - since that average is frankly pathetic. Yet here's where the irony comes in - would I be happier if everyone was as intelligent as me? No, I think because it would be dull. A city full of Riddlers would have solved everything by now, and what's life, without a challenge? Not to mention the fact that it would be impossible to get that kind of change made. I wouldn't object to giving everyone a few more IQ points, though, just to make this place civilised. As for your question, anonymous - I presume you're referring to humans as the most idiotic species in the universe? In which case, I'll have to stop you. Pond scum is probably the most idiotic species in the universe, logically speaking. (cough) Followed closely by Kryptonians (cough). But if you're asking why humans are stupid, well, we'd have to go back to the dawn of time for complete answers. Although the words "herd mentality" do go a long way to explain it, don't you think? An entire intelligent species, compelled by own biological heritage, to seek groups and follow each other. It's a wonder we ever made it Industrial Age.
