I understand a lot of the secondhand embarassement/cringe/irritation you get from the characters this episode. And what Patrick said to Richie like "don't you want a place of your own sometime?"(or something like that), maybe Patrick didn't think about the way it came out, or he also wanted them to sound exiting, but it just sounded like he thought Richie wasn't ambicious enough and he should want more/aim higher, but what if he was just satisfied the way things were, and it seemed like Patrick thought, that wasn't enough(sounding a bit ashamed/embarrassed somehow). It's good to be ambicious(just don't walk all over people to get there), but if you found something/a place in life that works for you, and you are satisfied with that, that's fine too. Richie's feelings towards the end of the episode talking to Patrick are very valid/understandable.
