This should be fun! I’m heading out to work but I’ll definitely watch when I’m back home! Thanks Guys

That howdy 🤠 American goodbye took me out!!

Suze

I read the book in preparation and I think the trailer looks quite faithful to it

b

i've read the book more than once, and i'd say there are things that will be missing (Alex's sister, a couple of characters from his past got condensed/cut, and probably the extent of the political storyline just for time), BUT the tone is spot on and you'll probably come out of it wanting more - at which point i'd say the audiobook is so good.

b

also, said this on youtube already, but: - the screenplay was adapted/directed by Matthew Lopez of Inheritance fame!! - the author specifically wrote a line where Alex talks about being half-Mexican and not passing as white so that if it ever became a film, they couldn't cast a white guy. so important rep in that sense. - they cast two queer actors to play the biggest homophobes ;)

Did I miss the link to the book series that Josh referred to? I’d love to read a medieval book about gay kings.

So

The book does actually talk about lube… it’ll be interesting to see if it makes it to the movie

Trisha Renee

My guess from his description would be TJ Klune's Tales from Verania series.

L Archibald

Prince Henry plays in Purple Hearts and in Cinderella. Alex plays in The Kissing Booth

Steve Marshall

Pumped for this one. I have read the book and listened to the audiobook version multiple times. There is no way they can cover everything in the book. As mentioned above I would think the political sub-plot will go. I think the most interesting thing is going to be the parallel with Harry's 'Spare'. Not from a sexual orientation way, but from the 'royal family expectations and dynamic'. Listen to the audiobook after you have seen the film. It is soo soo good!!!

Diane Furlong

This is going to be so good!! Alex, with all three of your salutes and waves I think you included several US regions so we’re good.

Rob Olivier

The energy and chemistry between the leads are palpable and infectious, in a good way. I am more excited to see this than I was with “Bros”. I really hope it doesn’t disappoint. Thank you guys for the reaction 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎🌈

indigo

Love this reaction. After this one you need to watch holding the man an Australian LGBQTI+ film based on play written by Tim connigave about his relationship in the 80's and the HIV crisis

Read the 📕 ❤️ looking forward to this 🎥

i'm shifting opinions on this lately. we can't know anyone's sexuality and i'd rather assume they felt a genuine connection to a role than require people to come out. and to advocate most for diverse writers' rooms and directors to ensure that the stories being told resonate and are respectful. this applies for sexuality, for roles that are written to be trans, the difficulty in acquiring roles as a trans actor and the cultural narratives and pushback about trans rights are still so far behind those of other queer persons that we need as much authentic representation as possible.

Suze

I’ve recently changed my stance on this too, mostly because of conversations in the ASWT discord. It does feel nice when queer actors play queer parts, but like you said - we can’t assume anyone’s sexuality. I spent 15 years married to a man and being assumed to be straight but my queerness isn’t defined by my relationships.

Suze

I only read it recently and had listened to Spare on Audible not long before. I absolutely drew parallels.

Suze

Do you have any idea where I could watch this from the uk please?

Chris Metzger

I wasn't too sure about this when I first heard about it. I was thinking, oh here we go, a cheesy rom-com with two beautiful men. How many tropes and clichés are going to have me rolling my eyes? Well, that all may very well be true, we'll see, but I admit, it does look really cute! I agree with Alex, watch it, then read it. Whenever I've read a book first that's been made into a movie, I'm always searching for the parts of the book that have been left out or done differently, and that kinda ruins the experience for me. When I read the book afterward, I feel like I'm getting extra, and I like that.

This looks really good. Good story, and yes some parallels to Young Royals, but this book came first, really good looking leads, looks well acted, and nice with some Uma Thurman and Stephen Fry too. Looks like a "enemies to lovers" trope, plus them dealing with how to be fully themselves/two guys in a relationship while being a public figure and whats expected of them at least the prince, just like you said. I havent read the book, but I can understand, what you mean with reading the book afterwards instead, because reading the book first can make the series/movie hard to live up to, what you imagined the characters to be/look like /how they handle the story. Sometimes I read the book first and sometimes after. Some of my favorite book adaptations done right are Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile(not Lgbtq+ though, just great books/movies).

Not the place to put this but....Heartstopper season 2 trailer dropped days ago, and still no reaction? Ugh. This one looks good and fun but I hope it's not too hokey. Lately I've not been able to get into movies so much as shows with lots of episodes, so we'll see.

Leo Varadkar is back to being Taoiseach in Ireland, but he is not the first or only out head of state: Elio Di Rupio came before him in Belgium, as did Johanna Sigurdarsdottir in Iceland (she was first). Luxembourg and Serbia also have out heads of states, full list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_openly_LGBT_heads_of_state_and_government

I am DYING to see you react to the full movie. Are you planning on it?
