Rainy Days

As if the heavens were weeping, large drops of water fell to the ground.

The stone paths were streaked with water, like a painting created by the heavens.

In short, it was raining. It was pouring.

I remember when I was little, my friend used to say that if the sunset was bright red or unusually red, it would rain tomorrow.

I don't know how reliable that is.

"What do you say, Big Sis?"

"Hmmm...I think I'll stay another night."

After dinner last night, we decided to go back to the village, because as adventurers, we can always look around....

It is hard to walk for hours in heavy rain. We decided to stay an extra night and relax in town.

The inn's restaurant was open for lunch, so I decided to stay at the inn until the rain stopped.

I opened the curtains and looked out the window and found that most people were using their cloaks as protection from the rain. It seems that some people use umbrellas, because I sometimes see people with umbrellas. I don't think I saw any umbrellas at the general store, so I wondered if they are sold at some antenna store.

The breakfast menu was almost the same as yesterday's: scrambled eggs, bacon, and bread, but there was black bread, which was not available yesterday, and the bacon seemed to have a different kind of meat.

Maybe they have several different menus for people staying for consecutive nights.

When I went back to my room after breakfast, I paid the receptionist at the front desk to extend my stay for one more night.

There was nothing much to do holed up in the inn, and the three of us chatted idly.

"Speaking of which, shall we try the appraisal paper you gave us yesterday?"

"Rilfana-chan, what is that?"

Rilfana-chan, what is that thing?" "Well, it measures the strength of the person who uses it. It's not very detailed, but..."

Oh, maybe this is a chance to find out the status!

"If you pour magic power on the paper, the letters will come to life. But please note that basically only you can see them."

"Only I can see it...?"

"Yes, I've heard that the latest appraisal paper is like that, because if others see you, they may have a strange impression or preconceived notion of you, or they may have an evil idea that you have a rare skill, so you shouldn't tell anyone about your ability except those you trust, Claire."

"Yes, I understand."

"It's the same for slaves who can't read the report. It is possible for a slave to be forced to say so by his master's order, though.

Rilfana turned to me and added.

"You can do as you please Rilfana, I'm sure Rilfana will tell you what you need to know, right?"

"Yes, yes, of course."

Rilfana's cheeks flushed and she smiled.

...Was there an element of embarrassment in that?

It seems that only basic stats and some titles and skills can be found out by using the appraisal paper.

Life magic and basic attack skills are also not shown, so most adventurers see nothing but basic stats.

Since appraisal papers can be easily purchased, many adventurers check their papers regularly, such as when they rise in rank or every year.

When three people each hold an appraisal paper and flow magic power through it, letters appear on the parchment with only the word "appraisal paper" written on it.

LV level: 21, STR Strength: A, AGI Agility: C, INT Intelligence: A, VIT Strength: B, DEX Dexterity: D, LUK Luck: B

As expected, his level is lower than SeveChro's maximum canst, but his level is high for his lack of actual battle experience. It may mean that he can gain experience from training and other activities.

Also, it seems that the statuses DEX dexterity and LUK luck have been added.

I don't know if this is good or bad.

"The last time I looked into this was on my 10th birthday. According to the description I heard at that time, the ability value status is rated on a six-point scale from E to S. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it's a good thing. I have never seen this before, but I am sure it will be the case in the future. I have not seen this, but I have also heard that those with potential are rarely marked in red."

Is my status significantly higher than average?

As for the excluded LUK luck, higher is better, of course, but they say it fluctuates to some extent. I wonder if it's like a fortune-telling algorithm.

I was shown Claire's paper, but I couldn't see any important numbers or ratings, only the letters INT Intellect in red; Claire's future looks good for a wise man who can use both offensive and restorative magic.

"I heard that if you have a title or special skill, it will be displayed under it."

...It says a lot of things.

--Tellnet's blessing, Stellatio's blessing.

I guess it means that I met God, and he gave me blessings.

--Talents of a magic warrior. Specific skill: magic sword. Talent of Cooking. Talent of magic granting enchantment.

As I thought, I guess I inherited the game's abilities. He has inherited the main occupation and production skills.

--Returned.

I guess this is a reincarnated player title.

SeveChro also had an initial title of "The Returned".

If you proceed through the main story, you will find out that the player character was involved in an incident or accident, died once, and was resurrected by the power of God in recognition of his past activities. As the game claims to be a sandbox, it seems that there are several routes, and even the main story differs in details depending on the route, but the main storyline is the same.

I don't know the details because I was waiting for the rest of the main story to be implemented.

"I had a C for INT intelligence and a B for LUK luck. It seems I have the blessing of Lady Tellnet."

"I got an A in AGI agility and a B in DEX dexterity. I had the blessings of Tellnet, the goddess of light, and Fimelita-sama, the goddess of wind."

"Wow, Rilfana-chan, that's amazing!"

"Maybe it's because I've been practicing self-defense more and more since I started using the certificate.

I have two A's too, so I can't say for sure, but I wonder if it's that easy to get an A? I have God's blessing, so maybe that has something to do with it?

My status is because I inherited SeveChro's abilities.

"What about Big Sis?"

"He got A's in STR Strength and INT Intelligence."

"What?"

"What kind of training did you have, Mina-sama?"

"My father taught me swordsmanship."

"But if you can use that amazing technique, does it mean you need to be that strong?"

"Is it a great technique?"

"Oh!"

Rilfana's eyes lit up, "I'm curious about that!" Rilfana's eyes lit up, which caused Claire to make a face. It seemed that she had accidentally slipped up.

Well, since Rilfana is going to be working with us as an adventurer, it was necessary to tell her, so there was no problem.

"It's a sword with magic power flowing through it to give it attributes, you know."

"...Magic sword...?"

"Do you know Rilfana?"

"Well, I've only glanced at it in some martial arts or history books."

Rilfana waved her hands in the air and denied knowing anything about it. I was very curious about the contents of the book, as if she was hiding something from me.

In summary, I am a magic warrior who can play both vanguard and rear guard; Claire is a promising sorceress; and Rilfana has a status suited to remote attacks and thief-thief types.

As adventurers, we were relieved to find a balance that we could manage with just the three of us.

It is still early for lunch and the rain continues to fall.

Since there was nothing more to talk about on the appraisal paper, I put it in the magic bag. I heard that it is normal to tear them into pieces or burn them after checking them, but I can't handle fire in the room of the inn. I'll dispose of it when I get back to the village.

Maybe I should read a little of the book I bought yesterday."

When you can't leave your room, the best way to pass the time is to play games or read a book. I put the book I bought yesterday on the table.

Claire had opened the book on witchcraft she had bought yesterday.

Rilfana was also curious and peeked in.

"Is it a book on medicinal herbs?"

"Is it an illustrated book of grasses and trees that grow around Solgeplante? The trees are just a bonus, but the grasses are listed, even the ones that are neither medicinal nor poisonous.

"I'm not from Solgeplante, but there are some medicinal herbs that I've never seen before."

"Is Rilfana from around here?"

"...She is from the neighboring Principality of Vallecorina. From what I've seen of the town of Gardia, it seems to be a safer and more vibrant place."

Rilfana was brought from a neighboring country? Come to think of it, the carriage was headed for the south gate, so it was obvious that it must have passed through at least one of the neighboring countries.

Even if I become an adventurer, I might remember something unpleasant, so should I stay away from them for a while?

Rilfana and I looked at the illustrated book, trying not to touch it anymore.

Claire seemed to be practicing her magic manipulation skills, sometimes groaning with a difficult look on her face.

By the time the bell rang at 4 a.m., the rain had stopped.
