[Another Viewpoint] Amazing Architecture

"Return quickly when you throw! If the horse is startled, it's harder to control! Be careful!"

A cavalry captain shouts. A few seconds later, a series of earth-shaking explosions occurred on the hilltop. An ordinary castle wall would surely break. Depending on its thickness, it could be destroyed with a single blow.

This was the case even if the wall were made of earth magic.

"Keep your distance once! Prepare for the second attempt!"

The cavalrymen come back toward us, shouting orders. There were about 20 of them. Even if the emphasis was on mobility, there are not that many of them. They probably gathered those who could get out the fastest and took them by surprise.

"Captain! Part of the north side is collapsing!"

"Good! Concentrate on that area! Throw some on the other side to distract them!"

"Ha!"

The cavalrymen confirmed the situation and immediately moved on to the next action. It was a quick decision and a precise attack. If there was a hole in the wall, they could throw the black ball into it and victory would be assured.

"I wondered what would happen, but this is a relief."

I heard a voice nearby. It was not a voice calling to us, but we nodded our heads and watched the battle situation.

However, something unexpected happened.

"Dee! Protect me!"

"Yes, sir!"

Just as I thought I heard such a voice, I saw a wall made of earth magic gradually changing its shape. Could it be that the child is exercising this much earth magic? But even so, is it possible to repair the magic after it has been activated?

As I watched the scene in amazement, another group of people appeared on the castle wall. Black robes and Mithril shields. At last, the best of our fortress' forces appeared.

"Mage Squad! Smash that wall!"

"Ha! Use the appropriate magic for each siege! They will be fired in order, not at the same time! Start chanting!

Before I knew it, Hellenic, the Knight Commander of the First Order, had arrived as well. Hellenic issued an order to the magician corps, and the captain of the magician corps gave further detailed instructions to his subordinates.

While the magicians were chanting simultaneously, the cavalrymen on the ground were rushing to defeat the enemy's magic once again. This is the best timing.

"Throw it!"

At the same time as that voice, the cavalrymen threw their black balls and quickly reversed. Behind the cavalrymen coming back toward us, a series of violent explosions shook the air. This time, they concentrated on a single spot, and a large crack appeared in the center of the wall. Then Hellenic opens his mouth.

"Now! Aim there!"

The next moment after he raised his voice, the magician squad released their magic one after another. Fire, stone, ice, wind, and other magicians were being hurled at them at a furious rate. The terrifying sight sent a shiver through me, even though it was an allied attack.

"Uh, oh..."

"What magic...!"

"...If they get hit by something like that, there won't even be a trace left!"

The ordinary infantrymen looked at the storm of magic happening in front of them and shuddered at the thought if it were to be directed at them. Every soldier who had been in the battlefield would feel the same way. That black ball was terrifying, but the fear of magic was even more so. Depending on their formation and equipment, they could die just from one of those balls flying at them.

With a chill running down my spine, I looked at the dusty hilltop. The view was difficult to clear due to the fact that I had exercised too many magic spells in succession.

However, as the dust gradually settled, surprised voices came from all parts of the city walls. I was one of them, as I recall, looking at the scene in front of me in astonishment.

As soon as the view opened up, a huge fortress appeared on top of the hill. There were even towers and turret-like sections in the center and on the left and right sides. The area where it could be built is narrow, so it is not as big as our fortress, but it is still quite large.

"...How did they manage to build something like that while under the concentrated attack of the current magic..."

Unintentionally, such words come out of my mouth. I don't know what kind of magic it is, but with that much impact, normally any castle wall would collapse. But if they can't break through with that, the only way to deal with the situation is to occupy the city with a massive force, or to cut off supplies and attack with troops.

"This is going to be a long war."

As I muttered this, as if on cue, the cavalrymen returned to the fortress. The gate opens, and the cavalrymen quickly enter the fortress.

"Damn! What the heck is that fort? How did they manage to get here in such a short time?!!!"

Steyr comes up the ramparts, shouting. He was angry, but he couldn't hide the frustration on his face. Then Hellenic, who was in command of the magician squad, walks up.

"Commander Steyr! Why is that thing being built? Why couldn't you stop it from being built?"

Hellenic yells at him, and Steyr snarls with a bitter look on his face.

"You saw it too, Commander Hellenic! Just a few moments ago, a pair of men appeared and declared the construction of a fort! And the next thing you know, we're in that mess! Who can stop them from building that?"

Steyr shouted back, and Hellenic, unable to say anything, fell silent.

Then, as if to make matters worse, they heard that kid's voice coming from the fort.

"I'm going to try shooting! Oh, and Jiernetta's people, be careful! Are you ready? Okay, here we go!"

At the sound of that voice, everyone turned to see what was going on. When did it happen again? On top of the fortress were two large weapon-like devices.

"...What were those things? I have a bad feeling about this..."

I muttered to myself, and sat down and lowered my posture. If it was some kind of projectile, even the top of the walls would not be safe.

I braced myself for it, but the reality was more brutal. Just as I thought I heard a gut-wrenching roar that shook the air, a tremor like an earthquake shook the city walls. Something that large must have had an effect. But we don't know what happened.

"...What? A dud?"

Just as he muttered that, a scream echoed from beneath the ramparts.

"The spear pierced through the wall! No one was hit, but the pillar of the tower is broken! It may collapse!"

"What?"

The report from inside the fortress caused a commotion. Just when we thought we were going to be in a siege for a long time, this happened. They can't be attacking us while holed up in the fortress, can they?

"Damn, what's going on!"

As Hellenic's confused cries echoed hollowly, the roar that shook the air once again rang out from the fortress that had been formed on top of the hill.
