Statue

Looking outside, the sun was setting, and the sky was beginning to turn red. It must be almost evening.

My parents would be furious if I didn't return home before dark, so I decided to leave today after I saw the next room.

"All that's left is this door, right?"

Claire, standing in front of the door at the back of the first floor of the cathedral, was listening in. She seems to have learned what I was doing.

"Not a sound. I'll open it."

Claire opens the door and looks around inside before entering the room. I see a desk, chair, shelves, and other furniture, and a statue of a knight.

I thought, "I've seen that statue before".

"Stop!"

"Hiyaa!"

As soon as I realized what it was, I pulled Claire as quickly as I could, and the knight statue jumped from the circular pedestal and swung the stone sword in its hand at the spot where Claire had just been.

The sword cut through the air without hitting anything just in time.

Claire was suddenly yanked back and fell to her knees behind me.

"That's a [Living Statue] monster!"

I was probably just being cautious because it had been so safe up to this point, but I guess I was just too proud to act.

I should not have let Claire get in front of me.

[Living Statue] is a stone statue demon commonly found in the ruins of ancient civilizations, and is entrusted with the defense of buildings.

It is positioned to protect the building, and the light's magical repelling effect is not triggered by the light's magic.

In [SeveChro], there were several patterns of shapes in addition to the different weapons and colors it possessed. The worst was avoided because the one in the room was a shape I knew.

I think the level of Living Statue was about 30.

It has a high resistance to physical attacks and is often the first job change quest for any profession. I remember that the party I joined in the early days when there was still no information available was all members of physical attackers, and we struggled a lot.

By the time the strategy became available, it had become a quest thanks to a wizard.

I had no experience in actual combat, and Claire and I would not have been level 15 at the highest estimate.

I don't even know if a wooden sword would do any damage.

I don't even know if it's a good idea to use game levels as a guide in this world.

"Get out of here, Claire!"

"No, no, sister!"

Hearing the sharp sound of the Living Statue's stone sword cutting through the air, I take advantage of the opportunity and try to attack with my wooden sword.

The wooden sword had no cutting power; it was only a weapon that smacked, not slashed. The stone sword of the opponent was the same, but the stone sword that I failed to dodge made a shallow cut on my cheek.

--It can cut.

I didn't know whether it was because of the magical power or the thinness of the sword, but I learned firsthand that it was just as sharp as a metal sword.

However, it was not so easy to receive an attack with a wooden sword, especially when the sword was made of stone, which is very dense.

After several careful attacks, I found that the wooden sword did not do any damage at all.

Perhaps it had been left unattended for a long time, or perhaps it was on the verge of breaking down, but the Living Statue itself moved slowly, and it was not difficult to see through its attacks.

The speed of the stone sword is sharp, but if you are careful about the length of the sword's reach, you should be able to avoid it.

This is thanks to my father, who taught me swordsmanship.

Since no damage can pass through, we have no choice but to retreat, but Claire seems to be unable to move well as she sits there with tears in her eyes, shaking. I guess I'm losing my nerve...

"Just move away, even if it's just a little bit at a time!"

"Uh-huh."

Claire begins to crawl backwards with her shaking hands on the floor.

If Claire is targeted, I can't protect her.

I would just have to keep slamming the wooden sword into the Living Statue to get its attention, even if it didn't do any damage.

Conveniently, the Living Statue is also trying to attack me who protected it rather than Claire who just entered the room. It would have been better if it had returned when I left the room anyway.

Luckily, the Living Statue's move was simpler than I thought.

It would just slash vertically while leaping at me, then land and slash horizontally. If you stood still, it would do something else, but if you backed right up, it would repeat the process. I would remember to slam the wooden sword down on landing to get its attention.

This should buy Claire some time to escape. Looking back at the Living Statue's expressionless face, it is eerie.

I glanced at Claire and saw that she had moved close to the door through which we had entered.

Once again, the Living Statue leaps up. It dodges the attacker's attack, and by the time it slashes horizontally, it hits the attacker, repeating the basic action.

--It was supposed to.

"Nah!"

I thought it was going to launch the same attack, but it launched another. The moment it landed, it used its momentum to stab forward.

I avoided a fatal wound, but it grazed me on the side. I wasn't wearing any protective gear, just my normal clothes.

The clothes ripped easily and blood flowed.

"Sis!"

"Just move away! It's hard to fight in the corridor, I'll buy you some time and catch up with you!"

I heard Claire's screams, but I wanted her to retreat.

The place where the blood has been spilled is hot and painful.

Ugh, maybe it's deeper than I thought.

If it had been just me, who was not so attached to this world, I might have broken down and given up at this point, but I can't stop now.

If I were beaten, it would be my sister Claire's turn next.

Claire stood up, though her movements were still jerky.

My injuries slowed me down, and I was just in time to dodge the Living Statue's attack, so I didn't have time to check on Claire.

At least the attack would get through!

I was in no hurry. If I get hit by more attacks here, I will not be able to move. Think about it.

...What would [SeveChro] do in such a situation?

I glanced around, looking for a metal sword with destructive power.

I just checked this room a few minutes ago, so this is not such a convenient situation. I don't have any Magic Item that I could use.

I can't use offensive magic, I can barely use life magic, although I can at least channel magic power into the Magic Circle.

What would [I] of [SeveChro] do?

"Well, if I can use life magic and magic power, I can use this..."

I tightened my grip on the wooden sword.

Ignoring the pain in my stomach, I moved a little away and concentrated.

The Living Statue leaps at me as usual.

After that, it should continue with a cleave or stab from the right. I struck the Living Statue on its left side, swinging my wooden sword as I passed by it.

"[Vento Spada]!"

If the wooden sword doesn't do any damage, why not strengthen it with magic?

The wooden sword is infused with magic power to give it attributes.

Go for it, my power of imagination!

In the previous attacks, the impact of the wooden sword slamming into my hand was also returned to my palm, but there was no such thing in the current attack.

I turned around and saw that the right half of the Living Statue's body had been sliced open.

The [Magic Sword], a secret technique that only the highest level profession, "Magic Warrior", could use.

It is a blow that can even overturn the difference in level between the two, as expected of the demons that appear in the quests for the initial professions.

The Living Statue also looks back at us, slow as a machine on the verge of breaking down.

Its slow movements seemed to indicate that it was afraid of me.

This way I can win!

"I won't let you touch Claire!"

He slammed the wooden sword with the [wind sword] on it in his right hand against the remaining left half of his body. It connected with the place it had just sliced through, cutting it in two, up and down, and it stopped moving.

It seems that the wooden sword could not withstand the secret rituals used by the highest ranks, and with a dull cracking sound, the wooden sword broke into multiple pieces.

What should I do, Father is going to scold me!

"Ouch!"

As soon as the tension of the battle was released, I felt a terrible pain.

I sat down and put my hand on my left side. My clothes and my hand were stained with blood.

I'm afraid to look at the wound myself.

I was a bit of a gamble whether I could use [Wind Sword Vento Spada] or not, but I also thought I could use it when it flashed on me.

When I used the life magic of [Cleaning], I was convinced that it was using attribute magic in a small way.

It was definitely the magic of wind that blew away the garbage stuck to the Magic Circle at that time, and my attributes chosen for [SeveChro] were water and wind.

It was so long ago that I don't remember exactly when I created my character, but I think I chose a ratio with a little more water in it.

My hair and eye colors were created with this in mind.

As soon as I was convinced of its magic power, the name of the magic sword's skill naturally popped into my head.

"[Guardigione]!"

Claire ran over and used healing magic on me.

Apparently, if the wound is deep enough, it can't be healed instantly. I mean, I thought I made them retreat, but they were still in the room.

"I told you to run away."

"I can't run away without you, Sis."

"I see."

I pat Claire's head.

After stroking for a while, I realized and suddenly stopped my hand.

"Did you hear what I said earlier?"

"Eh?"

"[I won't... Claire...] something"

"Oh...yeah."

Claire's face turned red as she remembered.

I thought Claire had long ago fled the room! I didn't think he would be there! My face is red too!

I've been here for only two weeks and I've got many things in my past that I want to seal up...is this hell?

"Sis!"

"What?"

"Thanks!"

After casting a healing spell, Claire hugged me.

Because of either Claire's lack of ability or her lack of magic power, it seems that she wasn't able to completely heal me, but the pain has subsided.

"You're welcome."

I said to Claire and let go of my consciousness.
