Chapter 15 The Three Highest Priestess

The Adventurers Guild Misery branch was established near the south gate of the Misery Citadel. The reason it was located near the gate was to make it easy for adventurers to use.

It was around noon. Normally, the first floor was deserted, but today the situation was a little different. Many adventurers had gathered in the Guild to confirm the announcement.

Derick was also there, and after confirming the contents of the proclamation, he joined his friends at the bar attached to the floor.

"Derick, did you see that the bounty on the undead has been doubled?"

"I saw that, Gil. And it comes with a free loan of a Holy Sword to any party that wants to take it down."

"The government is desperate. The skeletons attacked us and destroyed our image. They must want to restore their prestige somehow. So what's the plan? We're in........."

Clash, clash, clash...!

A rumbling sound echoed across the floor, interrupting Gilbert's conversation. At a table a short distance away, a plate of food was splattered all over the floor.

"What the hell, bitch? Say that again!"

"Yeah, I'll say it again and again! You have the holy sword, but you can't beat the undead. If you want to live, give up the bounty!"

"That's right. You don't have any knowledge of the undead. I'm not saying anything bad, I'm just saying that you shouldn't do it."

"The government is stupid, isn't it? You'd think that a bunch of amateurs would know that they're not going to be able to handle it."

In the middle of the commotion were Ruri, Rin, and Shise, arguing with a few adventurers who were having a rattlesnake.

"You're telling me...you guys think you can handle this!"

"Of course. We may look like this, but we are the highest ranking priestess of the temple."

The men looked at the three of them with a wry smile and laughed.

"Bwahahahaha! The highest priestess? In that outfit? You guys must be out of your minds......"

Before he could finish, Shise's kick exploded into the man's stomach! And the guy was blown to the edge of the floor.

"Damn, you did it. I'll never forgive you, even if you're a woman! I'm gonna strip you naked and make it impossible for you to talk to me ever again."

"I'll make sure you regret it! You are a sexual harasser!"

"Hey! Stop it!"

Derick and his colleagues, who had been watching the situation, rushed to intervene, but the chaos was no longer under control. The men pulled out their swords, while Ruri and the other three wielded their staffs, and a huge fight broke out!

***

That's when it happened!

Kin! KIN! KIN...!

Three swords soared into the air and pierced the walls and wooden floors, as three metallic clangs echoed through the air.

"You guys, you've got some nerve to go wild here, don't you? If you make any more noise, I'll beat you to death! Hey - even if you get cut off, there are three of the highest-ranking priestess there, so you won't lose your lives!"

Glenn was there, about to sheath his sword, when they looked.

"Sorry, Master Glenn, I won't cause any more trouble in here."

The men pick up their swords, bow to Glenn, and walk out through the front door.

Glenn looked at Ruri, Rin, and Shise and sighed heavily.

"My office is on the fourth floor, follow me."

Ruri and Shise meekly followed Glenn up the stairs, while Rin bowed to Derick and followed after them.

They entered the Guild Master's office and sat proudly on the visitor's sofa without being recommended to do so. Glenn looked at them and sighed deeply once again.

"I'm not one to complain about little things as long as they get the job done, but you guys need to do something about your outfits. Those clothes are too suggestive."

The three are wearing white robes, but the waist is narrowly constricted, and the skirt has a bold slit. Their thighs were exposed in some poses, making them very provocative.

"This is our uniform."

Ruri proudly puffed out her chest.

"Bullshit. In the castle, you would have worn a more modest robe."

"I'm not going to get into the details."

Rin laughed and tried to cover it up.

"We're heroes, so we should be bold!"

Shise was ready to ride it out with gusto.

"Well, that's fine, but many adventurers are single, including me. Don't show off too much."

With that, Glenn passed around a letter of recommendation to each of the three participants.

"First, thank you for accepting my request to be dispatched. I wanted a high-ranking anti-undead divine user anyway."

"No problem, we were originally trained for this kind of thing."

"Ruri-ane is right. Besides, it would be more interesting to be a subordinate of a Hero-sama than to be in the temple."

"So, what exactly do we need to do?"

"The request I received from the Prime Minister is to investigate the background of the attack, but the situation is still under a cloud. Besides, I'm an amateur when it comes to the undead. I only vaguely know about what you guys are up to."

"It's a long road ahead, isn't it?"

"Could you introduce yourself first?"

***

"Well, let's start with me, the leader of the group."

The first to speak was a priestess who appeared to be around 20 years old, with wavy black hair that reached to her waist. Her dark eyes gave a passionate impression.

"My name is Ruri O'Neill. I am one of the highest ranking priestesses of the temple. When it comes to magic, I am confident that I can match the Hime-Miko, but I am not very good at healing. Instead, I can use offensive magic, and I am also good at barrier magic. The presence-blocking barrier I used last night is a rare magic that very few people can use."

"That was a barrier that kept opponents from being aware of your presence, right?"

"Yes, with those barriers up, even the Misery Wolves won't be able to track us."

***

"Okay, I'm next."

A blonde-haired priestess, with short-cut hair, spoke. She looked slender and frail, but her blue eyes showed strength of will.

"Rin Arquette. I am also a priestess of the highest rank. I am 18 years old, just below Ruri. I'm also a little below Ruri in magic power. I'm good at sacred magic in general, and I think I'm one of the best at sacred magic barrier and healing in the temple. I'm also good at analyzing undead and know their weaknesses in detail."

***

"I don't like to introduce myself, but I can't resist the sisters, you know."

The smallest and youngest of the priestesses began to talk in an unenthusiastic manner. Her short black hair was neatly arranged. Her amber eyes were defiant, and if one didn't look at her breasts, one would mistake her for a boy.

"I'm Shise Bennett. I'm Shise Bennett, the A high-ranking priestess, just like Ane-sama and the others. My abilities are average. My age is fourteen---over!"

"Hey, Shise, that doesn't make sense."

"Master, Shise is a bit shy. Let me introduce her to you."

The leader, Ruri, spoke while looking at Shise.

"Shise has a unique ability, she can nullify most magic. Last night, the female vampire have been startled when her sleep magic was nullified. Without Shise, such a feat would have been impossible. There may be replacements for me and Rin, but there will never be a replacement for this girl. If something happens to us, you'll have to protect her as a top priority."

"Ane-sama! You can't talk like that."

"Shise, shut up! This is a fact."

"Well, well. Calm down, both of you. I'm not going to put you in that situation, so keep it down."

"Well, I'd like to hear you introduce yourself to us, Master. It's not fair for us to be the only ones to do it."

Rin, glanced at Glenn with a grin.

"You mean me... if you don't mind. I'm a retired adventurer, but I'm a swordsman. I may have not looked good without a holy sword at the time of the attack, but I was once known as the best swordsman in the Holy Kingdom."

"Whoa, you seem so proud about that title. Are you better than that mad dog, Sophie?"

"Of course not, her master is Lord Cloyde. I've never lost a match with His Excellency."

"Then, we'll be counting on you, Master."

"I will do my best to protect you all! You can rest assured."

At Glenn's words, the three highest-ranking priestesses laughed and nodded.

***

Thus, the anti-undead unit was formed. Although the group was small (only four members), it was one of the most elite in the Holy Kingdom. And from that night, the hunt for vampires in the city of Misery began.
