Chapter 13 Late Night Assassin

As the Prime Minister was speaking, the town was talking about the descent of Saintess. Moreover, the Saintess had saved Misery from the crisis of its very existence, an attack by skeletons.

The taverns were packed, and those who could not fit in the taverns were drinking on the streets. The day of the Misery attack was drawing to a close amidst such hustle and bustle.

The people of Misery were in an uproar, but they did not stay up all night. Perhaps exhausted from the fast-paced day, they all returned to their homes around the time the sun went down.

And then the citadel was asleep――――

The guards escorting the noble room were also asleep. No, guards were normally permitted to sleep. More precisely, they were put to sleep.

"The magic of Saintess is very powerful, but her body is just like a human's."

With a small curse, she raised the dagger she was holding and swung it down with all her might!

"Die, Saintess!!!"

At that moment, the woman realized that the space had shifted. The dagger was flung away, and the blade of the longsword stopped dead on her neck!

"This is a holy sword, move and your head will fly off!"

It was Sophie's voice, full of murderous intent.

The woman was surprised, there was no sign of anyone, so why?

"Barrier!"

At the same time as Sophie's voice, a sacred magic barrier was set up around the entire room. Trapped in the holy glow, the woman groans.

" I knew it was undead suffering from the barrier."

"My Sleep Magic is perfect! How did you prevent it?"

"If one can predict the magic that will be used, there are ways to prevent it. The temple has studied the magic used by undead, and how to prevent it."

As she said this, three priestesses appeared out of nowhere. They were Ruri, Rin, and Shise, who had rescued the Hime-Miko during the day.

Sophie and the girls had been waiting in a corner of the room, using the presence-blocking barrier.

"Good job, guys."

Glenn comes into the bedroom, pinning the woman down and tying her up behind her back.

"Do you know what she is?"

"Probably a vampire in the highest ranks of the undead. I think the giant monster during the day was controlled by her Charm Enhancement."

Rin examined the female vampire's body.

"It's not true one. She's just an undead created by a real vampire. She's not highly capable, so we could put down the barrier for now."

Shise disabled the sacred magic barrier.

"But I didn't think they would really come. It was worth the long wait."

"Thank you for your cooperation, Knight of Saintess. Normally it would be me doing the work, but it's not nice to have a man waiting in Lady Saintess' bedroom."

"Can you call me Sophie? So what made you think the assassins would come?"

"When you move an army that large, there's always a commander, and now is the perfect time to kill Saintess when she's out of magic and unconscious."

"This female vampire is in command?"

"I don't know yet. But she's a high-ranking undead, so there's a good chance."

"Then, if there are other commanders, they will attack us again. Couldn't we sleep tonight?"

Glenn explained with a laugh to Sophie, whose shoulders slumped in disappointment.

"No, I just need to get one prey. We intentionally kept the security low to catch this one, but now we're going to make it as tight as it was before. You can rest easy now."

"Haha, I was at my wits' end."

Sophie crawled into Mari's bed.

"Oh, hey. That's not very nice, you know?"

"I don't have a place to sleep because I didn't have lodging. I'm fine, Mari and I have slept together like this many times."

"Mister, it's interesting, so let's just leave it like this."

Ruri laughs.

"I agree! This is something to see."

Rin seems to be having fun too.

"Sophia-sama is just as they say, isn't she?"

Shise looked stunned.

"Hey, this is no laughing matter, this will be a scandal for Saintess, Rin and Shise, get someone to set up Sophie's room, and Ruri, help me drag Sophie out."

"I'm sorry it was a hard mission so soon after you arrived. I'll give you my letter of employment tomorrow at noon, and you can come to the Adventurers' Guild. Then your mission has been completed."

With that voice, Ruri, Rin, and Shise also disbanded. The date had long since passed, but the day of the skeleton attack had finally come to an end.
