Chapter 8 Misery attack! (1)

After the group of knights had departed to welcome the Saint, Glenn felt a bit overwhelmed. He was truly grateful when the High Priestess visited him in the waiting room and made him a cup of tea.

The High Priestess, Christie Sheirove La Mystrel, is the representative of the Mystrel Holy Kingdom, and is a seventeen-year-old girl with powerful holy magic power. Because of her magical power, she was appointed as the highest-ranking priestess at the age of twelve, and became High Priestess at the age of sixteen.

High Priestess is a religious symbol, and high holy magic power takes precedence over anything else. Young maidens are the ones with the highest magical power, and if they lose their virginity, their power is reduced by half. For this reason, she is not allowed to marry or even fall in love during her tenure as High Priestess.

Glenn was thinking about the High Priestess system as he looked at Christie's profile. He wondered what this beautiful girl thought about the fact that she could not even fall in love for the Kingdom...

"Cocrane-sama, is something wrong?"

"No... I just thought this tea was really good."

Realizing that he had been thinking about something trivial, Glenn faked it.

"Isn't the tea Sarah makes excellent?"

She looked up proudly to see a beautiful girl with lustrous red hair pulled into a twin tail. She must be about ten years old, and her red hair looks great against her pure white priest's uniform, while her shining green eyes are like emeralds.

"Sarah is a maid of honor, but her magic power is equal to mine. She's already on a level of a High Priestess."

"That's great; I've heard that High Priestess-sama has the highest magical power in the history of the world. To have that much power at her age?"

"The Prime Minister is also very fond of Sarah. Having her as my personal maid is very much for educational purposes."

Christie looked at Sarah.

"Sarah, Cocrane-sama has been a hero in Missouri since I was a little girl. My friends and I grew up listening to the tales of Cocrane-sama's adventures. This is a good opportunity for you to learn them well."

"Yes, Christie-sama."

Sarah turned to Glenn and gave him a deep bow.

"You are strong for your age. When I was ten, I was just a street brat."

"Oh, really, Cocrane-sama?"

Christie giggled.

"But I have high hopes for Sarah. I'm sure she'll become the next High Priestess soon and make things easier for me."

"Christie-sama, please don't be so sarcastic!"

Sarah puffs out her pretty face.

"Hmm, I apologize."

Looking at Christie, who smiles wryly, does the High Priestess-sama want to retire? Glenn couldn't help but make another boring guess.

That's when it happened!

Gaa~~~n, Guu~~~n, Gaa~~~n, Guu~~~n

城塞中の鐘が一斉に鳴り響いたのだ!

"What's wrong!"

Christie shouted at the guards.

"Make sure you check immediately..."

Before he could finish, another guard came running in.

"Enemy attack, High Priestess-sama, get to safety as soon as possible."

"Enemy? What enemy?"

"I can't believe it, sir, but they said that a huge number of skeletons are attacking us."

Christie realizes that they are undead, called skeletons.

"If the enemy is a skeleton, we can't deal with them without sacred magic!"

"Christie-sama, here."

Sarah hands Christie her favorite wand.

"I'm going to escort the Prime Minister, Sarah, stay close to me."

"Yes!"

"Cocrane-sama, would you be so kind as to assist me?"

"Of course!"

Glenn took a sword from one of the guards and ran towards the Prime Minister's office. He was followed by Christie and Sarah.

When the three of them arrived at the office, it was hell. Ten skeletons had taken over the room, and the Prime Minister was lying in a pool of blood after being poked in the chest.

Glenn slashes at the skeletons with his sword, but it has no effect. He was reminded once again that normal attacks did not work on the undead.

"Sarah, Heal!"

"Yes!"

The two of them unleashed a heal, and the skeletons that were hit by it instantly turned into sand and disintegrated.

Wiping out the skeletons in the room, Christie ran to the fallen Prime Minister. However, he was already gone.

"There's no point in protecting this room. I'm going to a place where I can oversee the situation!"

"All right, then. Right below here is the central balcony. Let's go there."

The three of them worked in perfect coordination to break through the skeleton army.

When they arrived at the balcony, they looked down at their surroundings and gulped. Several thousand skeletons had poured into the citadel and were slaughtering people all over the place.
