Been thinking about the scary game again and was wondering what scares you the most when it comes to a psychological horror game.

(I just realized I put two similar ones, the first player losing control is where the game starts playing for you and the second is that you aren't able to make certain choices or that the game pigeon-holes you into having to do something.)

Not exactly a loss of control per se, but feeling out of control despite controls working correctly. Like I think I know where this is heading (or I don't), and I dread it. But I have to keep going. Because I have no choice.

I think I'm picking up what you're putting down, like an ominous foreshadowing that tells you of terrible things but that's where the game is going.

What I find to be scariest in horror games is the environment design. It doesn't necessarily have to subtly shift (though that helps), but if the environment is suitably creepy and ominous, your mind can come up with more nightmares than the game will ever throw at you. Edit: Honestly, most of that other stuff just pisses me off, even if the initial encounter does produce a shock reaction (looking at you, jumpscares).
