Here's the latest version! The main change is 24 tables for creating spells and potions, triple the size of Maze Rats' generator! I rolled on it a few times and got "Ray of Malevolent Mud" "Condemning Chipmunk" and "Cone of Lava" so it seems to be working pretty well. It still has some kinks that need to be worked out, but it's definitely solid enough to use in Maze Rats. I've also included tentative rules for potion making, which will probably be the main source of magic in Maze Knights. A list of 36 pre-made spells is still in the works.

Really excited about playing this when it's ready. I especially like the sentence in the feats section about how melee combatants usually attempt a feat before attacking - it's a simple way to encourage combat roleplay and unconventional/dirty fighting. I'm a bit worried about the test mechanic though, it seems like the referee has to do an awful lot of determining or negotiating modifiers. I'm particularly concerned about how it might slow down combat. Having to make a judgement for each attack, taking into account both sides' traits, position, size, morale, armour, number on each side, ongoing effects from spells, how the player might feel if you give them a negative modifier for the fourth turn in a row, and so on... it seems like too much mental strain. Also I'd rather players were generally able to assess probabilities without asking the referee, so that while waiting for their turn they can make informed decisions about what they're going to do.

The I’m at “potions” and I’m thinking ...why not also include, wands, scrolls, spheres, staves, cups, coins, crowns, as holders of “mazewyrd” and have any of these items provide a one-off cast spell.

Regards the premise, particularly from the player facing information perspective, I strongly believe you only need say;- The world periodically experiences “Skyfalls”/“Mazefalls” leaving only Mazegate as a Maze-defying stronghold, against the everywhere maze of buttes, canyons, and byways, filled with maze-spawn, sky-titans, strange wreckage and gargantuan ruins. (Which builds the setting you want players and refs to explore, without being needlessly prescriptive about the “how” of the setting. This then let’s you posit any number of ways for the “how”, which I feel is always better).
