Hey Max - not sure if you’re interested/curious, but just in case I wanted to link a few things regarding Lee Know being a BTS backup dancer! The videos are pretty short 🙂 Lee Know backup dancer for BTS compilation (2:30 minutes): https://youtu.be/eF6lHpQCxnU?si=OR2bHmYSGXT5m2Qt Lee Know spottings in the BTS docuseries (~8 minutes): https://youtu.be/SCeHjr30kAU?si=zHRE9hPmAkfFBWhj BTS reaction to Stray Kids at 2019 GDA - people think BTS recognized Lee Know here (2 minutes): https://youtu.be/qYW_VBZoTsM?si=mtOGw4CBi63peAMY And you’re right, I think being a backup dancer was a huge bonus point on his Kpop idol resume! He had a super short trainee period (about 2 months I think?) before Bang Chan scooped him up to be in Stray Kids because he was so impressed with Lee Know’s dancing 🙂

Omg thank you for reacting to the mistletoe cover. Jimin wrote those Korean lyrics. He said That was his first time writing lyrics

doubling down on your thread— Yeah Lee Know was a backup dancer for BTS for around a year through Fire, Not Today, Spring day and the Wings tour era. There are literally pictures of Lee Know on the “Wings” tour days before he started training at JYPE.. and a month later the SKZ survival show started being filmed— he got picked up incredibly fast and he has one of the shortest trainee periods period. He’s definitely been in a several videos you’ve seen, he just obviously wasn’t the focus! He’s mentioned J-Hope recognizing him before, but he doesn’t talk about it a ton unless it’s for like a fun fact😆

I feel like it’s notable that a TON of the kpop covers that are performed are from younger groups towards their senior groups in a different generation. For the most part, unless a group is super super massive, it’s not as competitive with groups between different generations as it is within the same generation (it’s usually just older generations hating on younger generations as a whole, not individually). So it usually works well to give respect towards the older groups and in turn getting more exposure by performing more popular songs to maybe a new audience in that fandom. It might be a given, but since the industry has a lot of different quirks than the western one, I thought it would be good to mention. A good amount of the covers also happen to be of older groups in the same company if applicable. TXT and Enhypen have done several BTS covers, SKZ have done several of their senior’s covers, etc😎 But don’t get me wrong, many of the covers do get a ton of hate for no reason other than fandoms feeling miserable. And sometimes a cover can originally be received very well, and later on go viral being hated on (ex. SKZ Dionysus). So Yk the reaction varies. And yeah there is a lot of comradery. In a way, the industry is a pretty closed circuit. There are only *so* many groups within the same age range. With all the award shows/festivals/and music shows promotions (that usually span several weeks), they run into each other a lot. A lot of groups within the same popularity range especially or just in the same company are usually quite friendly. Especially if they’re the same age and meet on shows or share similar backgrounds (ex. japanese/australian/etc idols seeking each other out). A lot of trainees will also go through more than one company before ending up in the company they debut in, so a lot of trainees in different companies now have trained together (ex. some of the Ateez boys trained in bighit). And there are definitely popular schools among trainees since a lot of them move to Seoul and live in the dorms. It helps that the big companies and a lot of small companies are all based in Seoul or are very close to the area. There’s definitely a little kpop bubble and a close proximity effect that goes along with it. I bet they have a lot of “oh small world🧍‍♀️🫶” moments!
