Jeff Lagarde let his wife Joan select his vacation.  The Alternate Reality Vacation, would allow him to spend the next two weeks being someone else. Jeff had taken other Alternate Reality Vacations and enjoyed them immensely. This wasn't virtual reality, it was alternate reality, he would be that person in every way as if he had always had his life.

He woke up in the morning and looked around. He was in bed in a room that was definitely made for a little girl. It only took a few moments for him to know who he was and where he was. He was Cheryl and he was twelve years old. He looked to his left and saw his little sister sleeping on her own bed. She was four or five years younger than he was and a bit of a tomboy.

"I'm going to spend two weeks as a schoolgirl?" Jeff thought. "Very funny, Joan!"

There wasn't much to do but to 'enjoy' his vacation. He would be here for two weeks. Jeff got out of bed; he was wearing cyan-colored pajamas. It was a two-piece set with a llama, a star on the top and a matching pattern on the bottom.

Jeff took his morning shower, brushed his hair and his teeth, and got ready for the day wearing a pair of jeans and a red-print top.

Jeff walked to the middle school when he realized that he knew his location. He was still in his own neighborhood. he was only a few blocks from where he lived in his REAL REALITY. That had never happened before in all his other vacations.

Jeff met his friend at the middle school and let the day progress normally. Being a girl for a couple of weeks wasn't going to be too exciting, but not a big deal either. he decided he would just try and enjoy it.

While sitting with his friends inside the schoolyard fence, a ball happened to land near him. Being polite, Jeff got up and grabbed the ball, he was ready to give the ball back to whoever came for it.

When a boy inevitably showed up, Jeff happened to lock eyes with the boy. The boy was wearing glasses, but Jeff could tell that he had the most beautiful eyes that he had ever seen. Jeff stared at the boys face. The boy had gorgeous straight brown hair. His ears stuck out adorably from his head like handles. He seemed to have the most charismatic smile. Jeff thought he was the most handsome boy he had ever seen. There was a lump in Jeff's throat and butterflies in his stomach when he handed the ball back. Jeff felt an excessive warmth in his hand when the boy touched it. JEFF WAS INSTANTLY IN LOVE.

"I-I-I think this is-is yours," Jeff stammered.

"Thanks," the boy said as he took the ball. Jeff watched the boy's butt jog away.

"Cheryl...Cheryl... are you listening to me?"  Jeff's new BFF asked.

"Yeah, sure. What were you saying?"

Jeff couldn't get the boy out of his mind all day. He had fallen and he had fallen hard. Jeff had been in love before. He had had lots of girlfriends and was even married now, but this was different. He had never felt this intense in his life. He wasn't even sure what the boy's name was.

Jeff spent the next two weeks trying to attract this boy. Jeff found of the boy's name was Sam. He thought about him constantly. He even started to come to school wearing prettier clothes. He would find any excuse to be near him. Whenever Sam was around, Jeff was a nervous wreck.

The two weeks flew by quickly. Being a middle school with a major crush, was the most intense feeling of Jeff's life.  He didn't even end up going out with the boy.

"How was it?" Joan asked.

"I've never felt like that before."

"But did you enjoy yourself?"

"I guess I did."

A couple of weeks later, Jeff was still thinking about his experience when he happened to be in the local deli buying a sandwich. A boy entered the shop with his mother. Jeff recognized him in an instant. It was that boy, it was Sam!

That old feeling came back. He was in love with that boy as much as he ever was. Nothing mattered more than Sam. The lump in his throat was back, as well as the butterflies and his restless heart thumping in his chest.
