When Melvin came to the retirement community, he didn't want to take any medication. The staff didn't force him, but he found that without he couldn't concentrate very well. Over time, with the staff's help, Melvin acclimated to life at the home.

The friendly staff helped Melvin (or Melly as people call her) to adjust to life as an elderly woman with several ailments. She is in roughly the same shape as the other residents. The staff makes sure Melly always has her glasses on a string around her neck, her hearing aids in her ears, and her dentures securely in her mouth during mealtimes. As well as plenty to eat and drink.

Pills help clear her mind and reduce several other infirmities. Activities, along with the therapies (physical, mental, occupational) make her days seem full and interesting. Melly believes it is all her choice to participate in any activity or therapy the home offers. Some days she spends the entire day in bed, waking only for meals (which are delivered to her room.)

Melly enjoys her time at the retirement community immensely. She celebrated her 85th birthday not too long ago. She doesn't even refer to herself as a he anymore. She knows she would be well-rested when it is time to return to her former life.

Melly has lost all track of time as well as other senses. She isn't even sure that the people who 'visit' her are her family. She doesn't know that her two-week vacation has in fact lasted for twenty months so far and would continue indefinitely. Melly had in fact celebrated her 85th birthday three times so far.
