Chapter 16

In the morning, Tina told Fiona, “Let's get you some toys.”

“I thought we were still working on my posture and junk like that.”

“We can do that.  But we'll do that in public.  I'll be your guardian and you'll be a boy looking for toys.”

“Hey, that's a good idea!” Fiona did want some Pokémon stuff and maybe some posters to put on the walls.

“But first the doctor remarked about something and I think we should do something about it.”

“What?”

“You're freckles.”

“What about them?”

“If you put them on every time, they aren't in the same place.  We should do something more permanent.”

“Like what?”

“Like tattoos.”

“We can't do that; they won't come off.”

”These will come off when we need them.  You can put makeup on over them to hide them.  But you won't have to reapply them, so they'll always look the same.”

“I guess you are right.  When will we get them?”

“Today before our shopping trip.  I'll even buy you an extra special toy if your good,” Tina joked.

“I'll be good,”

Tina phoned the tattoo parlor and told them when she wanted.  It didn't take too long, maybe 45 minutes.  After Fiona left, she had on her face permanent tattoos of freckles.  This made her face look younger.  It was also easier to cover up freckles with foundation than to add them in the first place.

Fiona acted the part of a rambunctious little boy when they when toy shopping.  She saw all the Pokémon stuff and wanted them all.  This wasn't an act, she indeed wanted virtually everything.

Tina kept their purchases to a reasonable number, by saying things like “Frankie, I don't think so,” or “Maybe next time.”

Fiona acted the small boys by saying she “Really wanted that one,” or by pouting.

They started with an official Pokémon Ultimate Battle 10 pack.  This contained Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and seven other figures.  She also got a plush Pikachu and Mega Construx Pokémon Poke Balls and other things.  All tolled it cost over $200.  Fiona didn't care about the price.  She wanted them.

In another store, Fiona got two Pokémon posters: Trends International Pokémon Pokémon-Group Collage Wall Poster and Trends International Pokémon-All Time Favorites Wall Poster.  Both there almost two feet wide and three feet long.  They were perfect to tape to the wall of a typical boy's room.

Happy with her purchases, the pair returned home.  Fiona put all her stuff into her room and taped the posters to the wall.

Chapter 17.

Fiona saw so consumed with her purchases, that she forgot she had to babysit today.  Fiona got dressed in her normal clothing and put on makeup to hide her new freckles and then went to play with Steve.  She wished she could tell him what she bought, but she decided not to.

“Let's play Hide and Go Seek!” Fiona suggested.

“What are the rules?”

“You know how to play.”

“I mean what's off limits.”

“I don't think anything.  I guess as long as you stay inside the house.”

“OK, how long do we have to hide?”

“Hmm, thirty seconds.  "We'll use Alexa to count.”

“How long do you have to find me?”

“How about five minutes.  "We'll use Alexa for that too.”

“Sounds like fun.”

“Great!”

“Who goes first?”

“It was my idea so I get to hide first.  Hide your eyes.” Then Fiona called out, “Alexa 30 second times.”

Steve waited for Alexa to beep and then he set the timer for five minutes.

He looked through the house and found Fiona in plenty of time.

Then it was Fiona's turn to find him.  She had a harder time.  She didn't know the house, as well as Steve, did.

After several iterations of the game, Fiona found Steve in the garage.

“There you are.”

“You got me.”

“Hey, whose bike is that?”

“It's sort of my mom's.  But she doesn't use it anymore.”

“Why?”

“She just doesn't.  Mom doesn't do a lot of the things she used to do.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“Never mind.”

“Maybe one day we'll go for a bike ride together.”

“Kewl.”

“I have another game; it's called blind man's hide and seeks.”

“How do you play?”

Fiona pulled all the curtains in the living room and closed the lights.  There wasn't any way for light to get in.  It was pitch black.  We use a flashlight to find a hiding place and then you try to find me.  I'll be in this room, but you can't see a thing.”

“It was a fun game.  Many times, a person was found by stepping on them.  These were the fun and boyish games that Fiona was playing with Steve.

Chapter 18.

Some days later, Fiona was watching her cartoons and playing with her toys.

“Fiona, it's time to see the doctor.”

Fiona was still dressed in her Baby Yoda pajamas.  She rarely wore her female apparel.  Ironically, she usually wore women's clothing to babysit for one of the boys.  Even then she still wore her boys' Spider-Man briefs or another type of boys' underwear.

“Do we have to go today?” Fiona had gone to Dr.  Morris on schedule, but she never saw Ethan there.  Fiona had to wait for the session to be up.  She mostly watched videos, like Spider-man, Batman, and the alike or played with her action figures to pass the time.  She could do that here.

“Yes, we have to keep the schedule.  But Ethan is never there,” Fiona pouted.

“Doesn't matter.”

Fiona put on an over-sized baseball jersey with a pair of jeans, white socks, sneakers, and a baseball cap.  Her hair was snaked out the opening from the back of the cap.  She never wore makeup to the doctor so her faux freckles were showing.

At the doctor's office, Fiona was told to wait in the doctor's inner office, but the doctor wasn't there.  The receptionist kept her company, “Hey, today you will see your husband?” the receptionist informed her.

“Really!!!”

“Yeah.”

“Does he know I'm here?”

“No, it'll be a complete surprise for him.”

Fiona waited with anticipation.  It was like a surprise party.  Fiona was going to attend Steve's surprise birthday party in a short while.  She would both helped out Steve's mom and also play the games with the other boys.

“Surprise!” Fiona shouted when Ethan entered.  "Look at me," Fiona announced, "I'm in disguise!"

Ethan was dressed in a casual sundress and sandals with a thick one-inch heel.  His face used more makeup than Fiona had used in weeks and his hair was styled into a pretty bob-cut.  Fiona didn't care.  She expected him to look this way.  She knew the nature of his undercover assignment.

"What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you."

"Why are you dressed like that?"

"They thought it best that we weren't seen together so I came like this.  What do you think?"

"I think you look beautiful."

"I think you look pretty too."

Ethan gave Fiona a kiss and for the first time, it was Fiona who had to wipe off the transferred makeup from her lips.  This was the first kiss that either had made with anyone since the assignment began.

“What have you been up to?” Ethan asked.

“You won't believe it.  I learned how to throw a baseball.  Wanna see?”

“You did? Why?” Fiona could throw a ball better than Ethan could.  Whereas Fiona was strengthening her wrists, Ethan's wrists were getting weaker.

“Dr.  Morris thought it would help with the disguise.  I had to pretend to be a boy.”

“You are such a cute little boy too.  I want to eat you up.”

“Don't you'll get lipstick all over me,” Fiona complained in mock sincerity.

They talked for a while.  Ethan couldn't say what was happening in his undercover.  Fiona held back on her new love for Pokémon and Spider-Man.  They were just happy to be together.

“When will I see you again?”

“That is up to the doctor.  We have to be careful.”

“Yes, I know.”

When it was time to leave, Ethan gave Fiona one last big kiss.  Then he fixed his makeup and returned to his assignment.

Fiona had to wait a while before she could go.  They couldn't be seen together or even going to the same places.  She washed off the transferred lipstick and waited to leave.

“Fiona,” the doctor said, “I want to talk to you for a second.”

“Yeah.”

“It's about your hair.”

“What about it?”

“You can't let it hang out of back of your cap like that.  It could give you away.”

“I'm sorry.”

“I talked to Tina about it.  She'll help you.”

“Okay.”

Fiona didn't care, she was still on a high by seeing Ethan.

When Tina talked to Fiona about her hair, she told her, they should just cut it into a short boyish semi-crew cut.  They would use the hair they cut off to make a wig for when Fiona needed to wear one.

“That's a great idea,” Fiona agreed.

The next morning after breakfast, the pair went to a barber shoppe and had Fiona's haircut.  She got what was known as a taper fade which is one of the most popular hairstyles with boys today.  The sides are so short, it looks almost shaven.  It is contrasted with short hair on top.  It incorporates a side sweep in the front for a modern look.  It was so short that it really didn't need to be combed every day.

The long hair that used to be Fiona's was carefully set aside and sent to be put into a wig.  Since the hair cut was so short, the wig fit on top of it without any trouble at all.

When the makeup covering her freckles were removed, with her hair cut in such a short style, Fiona looked distinctly like a boy.  But she still needed her binder and somewhat baggy clothes to hide her feminine body.

Until Fiona's wig was made (it was done in under a week as it was a rush order) Fiona couldn't do any babysitting.  But she did still see Dr.  Morris for her scheduled appointment.

Chapter 19.

Tina and Fiona used Fiona's babysitting money to buy more toys and clothes during this time.  They looked like a boy and his mother or aunt at a toy store.  Although Fiona did like the new clothes she bought, she preferred the toys more.

“Hey, I have an idea,” Tina stated, “Let's see a movie.”

“That's a great idea.”

Fiona was dressed like a boy, but she was still a woman.  Despite that, the movies she would have normally liked a month ago she didn't have any interest in.  She didn't want to see Clifford the Big Red Dog either, which she thought was too much of a girls' movie.  What she wanted to see was either the James Bond movie or the Venom movie.  Both of which were rated PG-13.  She wouldn't be allowed into either without Tina.  The only movies she could get into alone were G and PG movies.

Venom was the best choice.  Tina bought two tickets: one adult and one child.  Before entering the theater, they waited in line at the candy counter.  Tina bought Fiona a large popcorn, M&Ms and a large soda.  Fiona no longer cared about her weight or her figure.  She didn't even care if the chocolate would make her face breakout.  Her womanly concerns were being washed away from Dr.  Morris.

Chapter 20.

After the wig was completed, Fiona returned to babysitting.

“Where have you been?” Steve complained when he saw her.

“I guess I've been sick.  I couldn't babysit for anyone.”

“Don't get sick anymore.  Mom had to use another babysitter.  That woman wasn't nearly as much fun as you.”

“I'll try.  But sometimes you can't help it when you are sick.”

“I know.  I'm sorry.”

“It's OK.  But I can make it up to you.”

“How?”

“Let's take bikes and ride to the park.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“You can ride your mom's bike and I'll ride yours.” Mom had a man's bike.  It was nicer than Steve's who still had a three-speed kids' bike.

“Kewl.  But won't mom be upset?”

“Don't worry about it.  I'm your babysitter.  You know that.”

“Yeah!”

“They packed their balls and gloves in a backpack and rode off to the park.  Steve leads the way.  He had the faster bike and Fiona was still out of shape.

“I want you to start calling me Frankie.  That is what everyone used to call me when I was younger.”

“I thought your name was Fiona?”

“It is.  But I didn't like that.  My middle name is Francine so I preferred everyone call me Frankie.”.

“OK, whatever you like.”

At the park, they ran into another boy that Fiona was babysitting.  He was at the park with his mother.  They played a three-way catch.  Fiona by this time could throw and catch a ball as well as any of the boys.  Of course, at eleven none of them was too accurate.

Later, they headed towards the playground area of the park and did the activities there.  They rode the swings, slid down the slide, played on the seesaw, and climbed on the monkey bars.  Whatever Steve did, Fiona did as well.

Fiona wasn't concerned with what anyone thought.  She just hoped that her wig wouldn't fall off.  This was the first day she had been wearing it.  With her wig on, her hair looked like it always had, except it was a little bit shorter.

“Hey, let's go hiking in the woods,” Fiona asked.

“Frankie, I've never been there.  My mom won't let me.”

“It'll be fun.  I'm letting you.  I'm done climbing these monkey bars.  I wanna climb a real tree.”

“OK, let's go!”

The duo walked through the playground to the back end of the park and then continued into the forest.

“OK, let's climb this tree,” Steve said.

“Let's keep going.  I think there must be a better tree.”

“Fine.”

They kept walking.  They couldn't even see the park anymore but they continued on.  Fiona was leading the way.  She wasn't keeping track of where she was going, she just ventured farther and farther in.  Steve was acting more like the grown-up in this situation.  He was worried about how they would get out.

“Hey look at this!” Fiona demanded.

“What do you have there?”

“It's a frog.” Fiona was holding it.  She hadn't ever done something like that before.  Not since puberty anyway.

“That's not a frog.”

“It looks like a frog.”

“It's a toad.”

“Close enough.  Let's look for more toads.”

“OK, but do you know what is fun to look for salamanders.”

“They are?”

“Yeah, I used to look for them in boy scouts.”

“OK, where do you find them?”

“Near streams.  Look under rocks, logs, leaves.”

Fiona let Steve lead this time.  He was her salamander expert.  They started by looking under rocks.  They didn't find any salamanders, but there were bugs under there.  Fiona wasn't squeamish at all.  She liked seeing the bugs.  She picked a few up to look at them closely.  This is something she would have never done at any age before she had met Dr.  Morris.  Dr. Morris was slowly removing Fiona's adult concerns and replacing them with what I boy might like.

“It's starting to get late.  We should head back,” Steve the responsible one said.

“I guess.  Which way did we come?”

“I dunno.  I thought you knew.”

“Let's go that way.  I think that is it.  They didn't make it back to the park per se, they found a road instead.  That was good enough because the road would lead to the park.  Steve was relieved.

“Hey.”

“What?”

“I came here to climb a tree and I'm not going to leave until I climb one.”

“OK.”

“Hmm, how about this one?”

“Fine.”

“Aren't you going to climb?”

“Maybe next time.”

“CHICKEN!”

“Don't call me that.”

“Then climb.”

“You first.”

“OK.” Fiona found a low branch and pulled her way up.  Then she continued halfway up the tree and sat on another branch.

“What is taking you so long.”

“I'm coming.”

Steve also climbed the tree.  Once Fiona did, he had to.  He didn't like being called chicken.

Soon they got down and headed towards the park.  They had to pick up their bikes.  Then they would go home.
