This month's sketch for Mystery Street, this is Aya from an old game series called Parasite Eve. I have fond memories of the PS1 original myself. In an age where pretty much every RPG was a JRPG, and each one featured a fantasy setting and starred an angsty teenage boy with ridiculous hair, the idea of playing as a level-headed, emotionally mature female cop in a modern setting was refreshing. (Hell, even by today's standards that idea is still novel.)

So anyhow I loved the first game, but don't remember much about the sequel. The biggest thing that stood out to me was the jarring art style change from the original. As in the first game Aya had more of an anime look, with a big head and a spindly little body. But the sequel was an aspiring Resident Evil clone, and thus adjusted Aya's proportions to make her more realistic. The change was so drastic and I'd played the first game so much that the entire time playing the sequel I couldn't shake the feeling that Aya looked husky as a linebacker, even though she would have looked perfectly normal in any other game.

They did do a third game on the PSP, one of those way-too-late sequels attempting to cash in on a name was my understanding. I would have checked it out anyway, but rumor was the story kind of took a piss all over the characters so I passed on that one. After all these years I'm still carrying a torch for a reboot, or better yet a remaster of the original. Stranger things have happened so there's no harm in hoping! :)

Great New Years Casey picture. Thanks! :)

Very well done and she’s very sexy:D.

There's no easy way to say this, but you're fired. Security will see you out.

Yeah, third game was terrible. Gameplay-wise it felt like it was trying to cash in on Crisis Core, with a similar kind of action-RPG style that, by itself, was okay, but uninspired. But the story turned Aya into a meek, simpering wimp that manages to make Other M look reasonable and well done (and for basically the exact same reasons, the interviews with the director mirror Sakamoto's waifu dreams eerily).

Man I didn't even know that much. Too bad they didn't have more respect for the series.

Wow, this is a blast from the past. I never played the game, but I remember seeing the ads for it a lot. She really did have a pretty design in the games, and DEFINITELY stood out from the "SquareSoft" Anime-Boys.

The fact that she was actually a grown-ass adult old enough to make detective did a lot to distance her as well. I also like that she was on a date when the game opens, that was a nice touch toward making her seem real.

I remember the first game, but to be honest, i really dont' remember what was it about... my first console was the N64, and then i jumped to the PS2, so, the games i played on the original PlayStation were just a few and with friends in their houses. Then i bought mine, but there a games that i still don't know... tho, i like a LOT Vagrant Story.

Reinbach

Funny you should mention Vagrant Story, I never played it when it was new but I bought it this year. I'll have to crack it open in 2018.
